Lamine Yamal, chosen Golden Boy 2024 by 'Tuttosport': Barça's talent continues to shine

Calendar of FC Barcelona

It's official! Once again, Lamine Yamal has secured an important award in his burgeoning career. The current winner of the Kopa Trophy can now add the Golden Boy award, bestowed by the Italian media outlet 'Tuttosport'. The results were announced in a streaming broadcast held at the Trasparenza Room of the imposing Regione Piemonte skyscraper in Turin, courtesy of the aforementioned media, who will present the trophy on December 16.

Lamine Yamal emerged victorious in a tough contest that included 24 other young stars: Alejandro Garnacho (Manchester United), Warren Zaïre-Emery (PSG), João Neves (PSG), Pau Cubarsí (Barcelona), Jorrel Hato (Ajax), Kobbie Mainoo (Manchester United), Aleksandar Pavlović (Bayern Munich), Rico Lewis (Manchester City), Savinho (Manchester City), Adam Wharton (Crystal Palace), Cristhian Mosquera (Valencia), Kenan Yildiz (Juventus), Jamie Bynoe-Gittens (Borussia Dortmund), Leny Yoro (Manchester United), Samu Omorodion (Porto), Oscar Gloukh (Salzburg), Desiré Doué (PSG), Mathys Tel (Bayern Munich), Arda Güler (Real Madrid), Endrick (Real Madrid), Andreas Schjelderup (SL Benfica), Wilson Odobert (Tottenham), Ben Seghir (AS Monaco), and Samuel Mbangula (Juventus).

Barcelona's '19' was the clear favorite to win this award

It is worth noting that Lamine Yamal was undeniably the frontrunner to clinch this award. Already at the 2023 gala, where Jude Bellingham (Real Madrid) was crowned champion, the player from Mataró received an honorable mention in the award and even received an exceptional distinction, the 'Youngest Boy', awarded to the youngest player included in the voting.

Furthermore, there is no doubt that Lamine Yamal has convincingly earned this award for purely sporting reasons. His key role in Spain's victorious Eurocup campaign, coupled with the impressive start to the season by the forward — with six goals and eight assists in 16 matches — clearly indicates that, at just 17 years old, he is destined for greatness.

Lamine Yamal is the fourth 'made in Barça' player to win the Golden Boy

With this victory, Lamine Yamal becomes the fourth player from Barcelona to achieve this distinction, following in the footsteps of Leo Messi in 2005, Pedri González in 2021, and Gavi in 2022. Additionally, he is the fourth Spanish player to win this award, after the two aforementioned midfielders from the Catalan team, Isco Alarcón, with Málaga in 2012, and Cesc Fàbregas, with Arsenal in 2006.
