After staying at the gates of the final for promotion to the Second Division, FC Barcelona has completed the renewal of Rafa Márquez for one more year, until June 2024. With this, the Mexican will continue to lead Barça Atlètic

Rafa Márquez will keep on being the trainer of the Barça Atlètic, at least, by a season more. The Mexican could not reach the aim to rise to the filial, but left good feelings in his first experience in the benches and the managerial culé has not doubted in renewing the confidence in the ex head office culé. In total, the filial contested 40 parties in the 2022/23, adding 17 triumphs, 13 ties and 10 defeats.

As it was foreseen, the Barça closed his renewal the Wednesday in an act in which Márquez was accompanied by the president Joan Laporta, the vice-president Rafa Yuste and the responsible director of the formative football Joan Soler. Also they were present the president of the Barça Atlètic Jordi Casals and of the director of the formative football José Ramón Alexanco. The new agreement of the Mexican is alone by a year.

Rafa descartó return to Mexico to remain in the Barça Atlètic

The one of Michoacán had interesting offers to return to his country and do charge of the Sub-23 of Mexico, in addition to forming part of the technical body of the absolute. However, Rafa did not doubt in remaining in the Barça Atlètic in front of the confidence of the managerial culé. The filial was near to arrive to the final by the promotion, but fell in some thrilling 'semis' in front of the Castilla (5-4 in favour of the 'merengues').

"We have surpassed the expectations. The youngsters have known to compete well and now generate more. I have lived an only experience that gives me more energy to follow", said Márquez after signing his new agreement. In this sense, affirmed that his aim will keep on being "pulir to the players" and give back to the filial to Second Division, category in which it was for the last time in 2017-18.
