Pau Víctor and his fight for minutes at FC Barcelona: Condemned to ostracism?
The lack of minutes for Pau Víctor: What does it mean for his future at Barça?
Everything seems to indicate that one of the casualties at the end of the 2024-25 season will be the forward Pau Víctor, who went from signing with the blaugrana team as a promise to being relegated to ostracism by Hansi Flick, the coach who prefers other players like Ferran Torres to relieve or accompany the '9' Robert Lewandowski.
If the '18' does not get the playing opportunities he expects, he could be loaned out or sold at the end of the season. He arrived to fill the void left by Marc Guiu after his departure to Chelsea, but the season is proving to be very long for a Pau Víctor who has two goals and one assist so far this term.
The ostracism of Pau Víctor at Barcelona is becoming more noticeable
The opportunities for the forward from Sant Cugat have greatly diminished since the beginning of this year, when he was finally able to be registered alongside Dani Olmo before the Supercopa de España final, won by FC Barcelona against Real Madrid on January 12 (2-5). Since then, Pau Víctor's ostracism began.
From that moment on, the former Girona player barely played 39 minutes in a total of four matches:
- ⚽ 18' against Real Betis (5-1) in the Copa del Rey on 15/1
- ⚽ 19' against Valencia CF (7-1) in LaLiga EA Sports on 26/1
- ⚽ 1' against Atalanta (2-2) in the Champions League on 29/1
- ⚽ 1' against Deportivo Alavés (1-0) in LaLiga EA Sports on 2/2
Pau Víctor has not played a single minute since February 2, when he last entered the field in an official match (vs. Deportivo Alavés). Since that date, he has been called up nine times but has always remained on the bench.
The '18' arrived as a promise, but...
Pau Víctor joined the first team of FC Barcelona as a promise from Girona for €2.5M with a contract until 2029 to give Lewandowski some rest, but everything has become complicated for the 23-year-old player due to the emergence of Ferran Torres. The 'Shark' already has 13 goals and whenever he enters the field, he leaves a good impression on Hansi Flick.
Although the '18' was loaned to Barça Atlètic in the 2023-24 season before officially signing with the blaugrana team, where he scored 20 goals and nearly led the reserve team to the Second Division. However, the current scenario has become uphill for a Pau Víctor who must prove himself in a team that is fighting for all titles and cannot afford mistakes.
