Leo Messi, demonstrating a deep knowledge of FC Barcelona, did not hesitate to mention several players who have left their mark on the club's history. In addition, he spoke about the two figures who impacted him the most throughout his career on the team
Leo Messi had the opportunity to talk extensively about various issues related to FC Barcelona, an institution he knows perfectly, of which he is one of its great legends, if not the greatest, and undoubtedly one of its most cherished historical players.
On this occasion, in addition to addressing various club-related topics, the Argentine, in an interview with 'Mundo Deportivo', discussed who, in his opinion, are the most important figures in the team's history. Messi affirmed that there are hundreds of iconic names associated with FC Barcelona, mentioning several he considers most representative, although he acknowledged that he is likely leaving some out:
"Wow, there are many, and surely if I start naming them I'll forget some. This is a club that has always stood out for having the best players and coaches in the world. The great football stars always wanted to come and be at Barça: from Johan Cruyff, through Puyi, Andrés Iniesta, Xavi, the two Luis Suárez, Hristo (Stoichkov), Pep (Guardiola) as a player and then as a coach, Ronnie, Rijkaard (I include him for what he meant to me and the club), Diego (Maradona), who although he was here for a short time, had a huge impact due to who he is, Koeman with the Wembley goal in the first European Cup…", confessed the '10'.
Additionally, Leo Messi mentioned names that might be slightly out of his era, but of whom he has great references from what he has heard about them. "I also heard a lot about César, Kubala and that forward line that Serrat names in his song: Basora, César, Kubala, Moreno and Manchón. I'm sure I'm forgetting many important people," added the Rosario native.
The two historical names at Barcelona that most influenced Leo Messi during his time as a Culé
Now, Leo Messi also discussed the figures that impacted him the most during his time at FC Barcelona, dividing them into two aspects: who influenced him as a coach and who influenced him as a player, two stellar names in Barcelona's history. "I think there are two that influenced me a lot for different reasons. Pep, because I had him as a coach for many years and we achieved incredible things that we could never have imagined. And Ronaldinho, because of how he welcomed me, how he helped me, it served me a lot in my early moments in the first team," explained 'La Pulga'.
However, this does not mean that other players did not leave their mark on him during his time as a Culé. Messi also acknowledged that there are other players who shared with him the club's most glorious moments, of whom he holds excellent memories, taking the opportunity to make a special mention. "I also remember Andrés (Iniesta) and Xavi as teammates, and the three who play with me here in Miami (Busquets, Alba, and Suárez), who are also friends. And of course, a special mention for Tito Vilanova, whom we miss so much," he concluded.
