Wojciech Szczesny is still waiting for his first minutes with FC Barcelona. The Pole has made six substitutions in a row and would have already claimed prominence from Hansi Flick

Calendar of FC Barcelona

The FC Barcelona coaching staff would be forced to modify their plans in the Barça goal after the November national team break. Although, for now, Wojciech Szczesny has assumed his role as a substitute at Barça with patience and professionalism, the Pole understands that he is in a position to be a starter and would have already demanded more prominence from the culé coach.

Szczesny arrived in Barcelona in October after four months of inactivity, but from the first training session at the Ciudad Deportiva he impressed both the technical staff and the rest of the squad with his impeccable physical condition. Flick, however, wanted to give him a couple of weeks to get in shape and assured that he would be ready to make his debut after last month's break, for the duel against Sevilla.

Although the Pole was included in the squad against Seville, he did not get any minutes and, since then, has played six consecutive games (four in the League and two in the Champions League) waiting for his official debut as a Barça player. The Barça coach has confirmed his confidence in Iñaki Peña and the Alicante native responded with good performances against high-ranking rivals, but the former Arsenal goalkeeper would not be willing to spend the entire season on the bench.

Hansi Flick could change his mind about Szczesny's role in Barcelona

In this sense, Szczesny has already made clear to the coach his desire to start getting minutes and fight for a starting position. The Warsaw native understands and respects Flick's position with Iñaki, but believes that he deserves more opportunities, in accordance with the performance that both goalkeepers show in each training session. For the moment, the Warsaw native has had a more formative role within the squad, rather than fighting for a position, to provide support and confidence to the Alicante native.

"We are very happy with Peña and there is no reason to change either in the League or the Champions League. That is my idea right now," said the Heidelberg native about the goalkeeping debate before the Barça-Sevilla game. Well, the coach's idea could be very close to changing, in order to respect the hierarchy of a Wojciech with extensive experience in England and Italy and whose quality and reflexes remain intact.

In principle, the duel against Celta (Saturday 23rd in Balaídos) will be key to knowing Hansi Flick's plans with the Barça goal between now and the end of the year. Iñaki Peña has conceded an average of 1 goal per game since the Pole has been available to play and, although he has stood out with several important saves against Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Real Sociedad, he continues to generate doubts among the fans and due to his inexperience.
