WORLD CUP 2030
Spotify Camp Nou aims to make it to the 2030 World Cup final
Barcelona, with its renovated FC Barcelona stadium, is preparing to host matches of the major international football tournament
This Wednesday it was officially confirmed that Spain, Portugal and Morocco will jointly host the 2030 World Cup, and the Spotify Camp Nou will be one of the featured venues. The news was announced during the Extraordinary FIFA Congress, with the presence of institutional representatives of FC Barcelona.
A renovated stadium with a large capacity
The Spotify Camp Nou, currently undergoing renovation, is shaping up to be one of the largest venues at the World Cup, with a capacity for 105,000 spectators. This positions it as an important candidate to host the grand final, as well as matches from different phases of the tournament. Other stadiums in Spain and the host countries, such as the Santiago Bernabéu and the Grand Stade Hassan II, are also part of the list of venues.
The new stadium is one of the other selected venues:
- Spain: Santiago Bernabéu (Madrid), Metropolitano (Madrid), RCDE Stadium (Cornellá), La Cartuja (Seville), San Mamés (Bilbao), Estadio Gran Canaria (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria), La Rosaleda (Málaga), Reale Arena (San Sebastián), La Romareda (Zaragoza) and Riazor (A Coruña).
- Portugal: Estádio da Luz (Lisbon), Estadio José Alvalade (Lisbon) and Estádio do Dragão (Porto).
- Morocco: Grand Stade Hassan II (Casablanca), Prince Moulay Abdellah (Rabat), Grand Stade de Tánger, Agadir, Fez and Marrakech.
A historic return to the World Cup
It will not be the first time that the Camp Nou hosts a World Cup. It was already a protagonist in the 1982 World Cup in Spain, being the scene of the opening ceremony and several matches, including a semi-final between Italy and Poland.
With their eyes set on 2030, Barcelona and the Spotify Camp Nou are preparing to be part of this event.
