Szczesny speaks out after his expulsion: "Yes, I made a bad decision..."
The Polish goalkeeper posted several photographs related to winning the Spanish Super Cup accompanied by a text where he admits his mistake while reflecting on his attitude
Wojciech Szczesny was shown a red card in his third start for FC Barcelona. The Polish goalkeeper was sent off in the 56th minute after beating Kylian Mbappé in a one-on-one. As the Real Madrid striker was advancing alone towards the empty goal of the Blaugrana team, Gil Manzano, with the help of the VAR, sanctioned the action with the most severe punishment and Hansi Flick's pupils were left with one less man.
Two days after the match, the Polish goalkeeper uploaded a post to his official Instagram profile. It consists of five photographs, three of the title celebration on the field, one on the plane back and another of the eleven who started; accompanied by a profound text. In it, he had no shame in saying that he was wrong, in fact he admitted it in the first line, while reflecting on his attitude and the great change he has experienced compared to the summer, when he was "enjoying" his life "on the beaches and golf courses of Marbella."
The writing released by the Barcelona goalkeeper says the following:
Yes, I made a bad decision and was sent off in my first ever El Clasico! Yes, it’s not a particularly nice feeling. But experience lets me see things from a different perspective.
In September I was retired from football and I was enjoying my life on the beaches and golf courses of Marbella. 4 months later I got to play a game that before I could only watch in TV or play on Fifa. And I was never going to hide and play this game afraid of making difficult decisions and taking risk.
One might think that it is that attitude that caused my red card. I prefer to think that it’s precisely this attitude that led me to be where I am right now and it is thanks to my sometimes unreasonable courage that I now get to enjoy my first trophy as a Barcelona player!
