The FC Barcelona apparently already has an artist in mind to carry out a collaboration with the shirt for the classic against Real Madrid in May
If there is a marketing move that has been effective for FC Barcelona recently, it is the one carried out hand in hand with its major sponsor, the service of music, podcasts, and digital videos, Spotify. This company joined paths with the Catalan team since the year 2022, motivating the team to present a special edition of its jersey in each Clásico against Real Madrid in LaLiga.
Spotify yields its space on the chest of the blue and red jersey so that the team can collaborate with a specific artist or band. For instance, in the Clásico of the first round of the 2024-25 season, played on October 26th at the Santiago Bernabéu (4-0), Barcelona showcased the logo of the London-based pop-rock band, Coldplay, to promote their tenth album 'Moon Music'.
This initiative was also implemented in the 2023-24 season. In that year, in the first leg match at Montjuïc (1-2), Barcelona used a jersey with the emblematic logo of the London rock band Rolling Stones. In the return leg at the Santiago Bernabéu (3-2), they displayed the identifying logo of 'Bichota', the Colombian reggaeton singer Karol G.
Prior to this, in the 2022-23 season, Barcelona collaborated with the Spanish singer, Rosalía ('Motomami'), to design an exclusive jersey for the second leg match (2-1) at their stadium. In the first leg at Chamartín (3-1), they partnered with the Canadian rapper Drake, a pioneer of this initiative.
Who would be the next artist or band that Barcelona would collaborate with?
To conclude the 2024-25 season, the big question is: who will be the artist that Barcelona will collaborate with for the home league Clásico on May 11th? Several names have been speculated, and according to 'MD', the 33-year-old British artist, Ed Sheeran, is one of the favorites for this collaboration.
Rumors suggest that weeks ago there was a consensus to associate the name of the English artist with Spotify in the context of Barça-Madrid. It is worth noting that just three weeks after this match, Ed Sheeran will start his European tour at the Metropolitano in Madrid with two concerts on May 30th and 31st.
This 'tour' will cover 10 countries until September. Therefore, it would not be surprising to see a marketing strategy of this kind that benefits both the artist in promoting his work and Barcelona in reaching a new market and fan base.
