Gavi did not play: reasons behind Barça's decision
One of the big questions that arose after the match against Atlético de Madrid (0-1) regarding FC Barcelona was why the Andalusian midfielder, Gavi, did not have minutes in the match against the 'colchoneros' in the closing of the 'semis' of the Copa del Rey. A match that, in principle, seemed favorable for him, as due to Dani Olmo's injury, there was no clear name to occupy the position of playmaker.
Moreover, matches against Atlético de Madrid usually require players with his characteristics: intense in physical deployment, tough in marking, capable of putting in a tackle, but also with good ball control and arrival in the opponent's area.
However, not only was he not a starter, as Hansi Flick opted for Fermín López from the start, but he also did not come on as a substitute. When the German coach substituted the player from Huelva, he did so to bring in Ronald Araujo and reorganize the scheme. He also made three other tactical modifications, incorporating Eric García, Robert Lewandowski, and Gerard Martín, leaving one more option still to 'burn'.
Gavi may have felt discomfort in his right knee
The mystery now has an answer. Apparently, Gavi did not play due to physical discomfort. According to recent reports from 'RAC1', the Andalusian midfielder felt discomfort in his right knee (the same one he was operated on for a complete rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament and an associated injury to the lateral meniscus) during the warm-up before the match against 'Cholo' Simeone's team. This situation raised alarms, and the coaching staff decided to be cautious and not risk him in such a demanding match.
This version was practically confirmed after, according to TV3 cameras, during the celebration of the victory on the pitch of the Riyadh Air Metropolitano, Hansi Flick, always close to his players, approached Gavi and directed a glance at his right knee, as if asking him about his condition. The player from Palacios responded with a gesture and an expression that hinted at some discomfort.

Will the Andalusian make it to the match against Real Betis?
Now it remains to be seen how this physical setback develops. It is a matter to keep a close eye on, especially with the commitment against Real Betis in LaLiga EA Sports on the horizon (Saturday, April 5, 21:00 h), a match in which it is expected that the Andalusian can be available without issues. Everything will depend on his evolution, as Gavi is a key piece in Hansi Flick's sports planning, especially given the prolonged absence of Dani Olmo.
