The sanction imposed on Fermín López has been formalized for his expulsion in the confrontation against Sevilla FC. How many games will the Huelva have to miss? We tell you in FCBN
The extent of the sanction that Fermín López must comply with for his controversial expulsion in the clash between Sevilla and FC Barcelona (1-4) has been made public. It is worth noting that, according to the referee report by Alejandro Hernández Hernández, who officiated the match between the Sevillistas and Culés, the player from Huelva was sent off for a "challenge against an opponent in dispute for the ball, using excessive force".
It is crucial to point out that this expulsion was highly debated at the time. Although Fermín López made contact with Swiss midfielder Djibril Sow, this action occurred as a result of an involuntary movement, as initially the tackle by the El Campillo player was successful, clearing the ball. However, at the end of the play, he was unable to control his leg, resulting in a collision with Sevilla's '20'.
Initially, the action was penalized with a yellow card, but after VAR review, it was changed to a direct red card. This alteration was based on the following argument after analyzing the footage of the play: "Yes, he goes in with both legs in a scissor motion. Enters very forcefully, body out of control. That is dangerous".
Fermín López will only miss one match due to this sanction
Now, the Discipline Committee of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has announced the duration of the suspension that Fermín López must serve as a result of this expulsion. Fortunately for him, he will only face a single match suspension for "engaging in violent conduct during the game or as a direct consequence of a game situation, provided that the action poses a risk but does not result in harmful or injurious consequences, it will be penalized with a suspension of one to three matches or for up to a month". The penalty is based on Article 130.1 of the RFEF Disciplinary Code.
Therefore, FC Barcelona will only be without Fermín López for one match. This match will be the clash of Matchday 24 of LaLiga EA Sports against Rayo Vallecano (17/02 - 9:00 PM).
