FC Barcelona is currently facing a rather complicated situation regarding the registration of Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor. The latter is in a totally different scenario than the first
The FC Barcelona is currently facing a significant issue regarding the registration of Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor. The registration of the former is arguably the most publicized due to the circumstances surrounding his potential departure, the investment made in him, and his pivotal role in the Catalan sports project. Nevertheless, it is also crucial to address the situation of the latter, who, although less talked about, has also been left unregistered.
In this regard, the situation of Pau Víctor becomes more peculiar when compared to that of Dani Olmo. Why? Because the 23-year-old forward is not in the same position as the Terrassa-born midfielder.
When signing his contract with Barcelona, Pau Víctor did not include a clause similar to that of Dani Olmo, which, in the event of being unable to register, would automatically make him a free agent. This would allow him to negotiate his connection with another club during this winter transfer market.
Could Barcelona opt to loan Pau Víctor to another club if they fail to register him?
At this point, Pau Víctor, who signed a contract with the club until 2029, would not be immediately disassociated from Barcelona if not registered, but would remain part of the Catalan team without the ability to participate in any competition due to lack of registration. So, what would be the most viable solution in this case? At first glance, loaning him may seem like an option, however, the situation is not as straightforward for the Blaugrana team.
To be loaned, the player from Sant Cugat del Vallés would need to be registered, as stated in article 158 of the General Regulations of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF): "Clubs can temporarily loan or definitively transfer the rights derived from the registration of their professional footballers." Therefore, it is evident that loaning the forward would not be a viable option.
The 'number 9' could see his bond with the Catalan team terminated
In this line of argument, it would not be surprising if Pau Víctor ceased to be a player of FC Barcelona if the registration issue is not resolved, even with regulatory support. Both the General Regulations of the RFEF in article 119, point three:
"The cancellation of the license resolves all ties between the player and the club, allowing the former to join any club they desire, whether from their current place of residence or elsewhere, although their alignment will be subject to the provisions established in the current General Regulations."
And as per article 14 of the FIFA Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players, the possibility of Pau Víctor becoming disassociated from Barcelona if not registered is supported:
"A contract may be terminated by either party without any consequences (neither payment of compensation nor imposition of sporting sanctions) when there is just cause. Generally, just cause exists in any circumstances where it can no longer reasonably and in good faith be expected that one party will continue a contractual relationship."
Moreover, according to article 17 of the FIFA Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players, Pau Víctor could even request compensation in case of contractual breach by the club.
The outcome of this situation is yet to be seen. If the registration issue is not resolved, the decision will rest with the La Masia graduate: will he choose to leave or opt to stay at the Culés and endure another half-season blocked from action? Only time will tell.
