FC Barcelona's pre-season tour of the United States has allowed Hansi Flick to get to know his squad in depth to find out who he can count on for next season and he has been pleasantly surprised by the performance of two young footballers
Hansi Flick seems to have closed the door on further signings in midfield. The German coach has been very happy with his team's performance on the tour of the United States and what he has seen in the games against Manchester City, Real Madrid and AC Milan has convinced him that he does not need more players in the midfield.
After the match against Milan, which the Italian team beat with a score of 2-2 (4-3) on penalties, the coach revealed to the press his impressions of the preseason: "The balance of the tour has been very positive. There are many young players, their quality is enormous. Some have evolved, they adapt to what we are looking for. I want us to enjoy defending and also attacking together. There are 10 days left until the league opener, we are on the right track but we can improve a lot."
Flick bets on Marc Casadó and Marc Bernal
Two players who won Flick's trust on American soil were the young Marc Casadó and Marc Bernal. There is no doubt about the former, he will stay in Barcelona after his contract renewal until 2028 and is a clear bet to replace Sergi Roberto. The reserve team player fulfilled the expectations that were had of him in the friendlies, so there is no doubt that he will be quite useful in the first team.
As for Bernal, the 17-year-old player extended his contract until 2026 before leaving for the United States and has also left a very good impression on the coaching staff. The Spaniard is seen staying in the first team dynamic, but not playing as many games and not at the same time as Casadó. Due to his youth, the most favorable context would be for him to play in the double pivot of the 4-2-3-1 mixed with more experienced players such as Frenkie de Jong, Andreas Christensen or Ilkay Gündogan. What else can these young talents bring to Barcelona? We will find out this season.
