FC Barcelona arrive at the first international break of the year as leaders of LaLiga with a perfect score and Hansi Flick already knows which players will remain in Barcelona after not being called up by their respective countries

Calendar of FC Barcelona

The first international break of the 2024/25 season has already begun and FC Barcelona already knows who is staying and who is leaving Barcelona. There are up to 10 players who were called up by their respective national teams and many more who will remain in the city for various reasons, including continuing to recover from their injuries.

If we talk about the players who will be absent from their national teams due to physical problems, first we have Ronald Araújo. The Uruguayan defender has been injured in the hamstring tendon of his right thigh since July 7 and is expected to be out for four months. Andreas Christensen is in the same situation as his teammate after suffering tendinopathy in the left Achilles on August 24.

For his part, Gavi continues to recover from a tear in the anterior cruciate ligament of his right knee and an associated injury to the external meniscus. Frenkie de Jong and Ansu Fati have problems with their ankle and foot, respectively. Finally, Marc Bernal suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee and an associated injury to the external meniscus on August 27, which means he will have to undergo surgery and will miss the rest of the season.

Barcelona players who were not called up for other reasons

In the case of Raphinha, the player will not be able to play in the South American Qualifiers with Brazil due to a suspension for accumulating two yellow cards. Alejandro Balde has not been called up by Spain since October 2023 and this is the first call-up in which he was not called up since his medical discharge. Iñigo Martínez has three FIFA dates without being called up by Luis de la Fuente and Eric García, who was an Olympic champion, was also not considered for these matches.

Pablo Torre has never been called up to the Spanish senior team, but he was not called up for the U-21 team either, despite having four consecutive call-ups. The same is true for Marc Casadó and Pau Víctor, who have not been considered by De La Fuente until now, but are expected to soon be part of the team that won Euro 2024 in Germany. All of these players will have the opportunity to rest for a couple of days, before being put under Flick's direction in training.
