The Blaugrana have been keeping an eye on players who are out of contract for years in order to sign them without a transfer fee. This summer there are several interesting profiles

Calendar of FC Barcelona

The poor financial situation has forced FC Barcelona to learn to manage the few resources it has efficiently. One of the biggest changes is the transfer policy, which now focuses on the arrival of young talents and free agents, instead of making large investments, although there are exceptions, of course. Regarding the market for players without a contract, the Blaugrana has been keeping an eye on it since the first year of Laporta's term and this has not changed until now. It is about taking advantage of opportunities.

In 2025, players of all kinds, many of world class, will end their contract with their teams. In fact, there are young talents, established footballers, stars and, for the most nostalgic, Leo Messi and Neymar Jr. will also reach the end of their work agreement in June. Now that January is coming, it is important that the club is agile. It is a key month to secure the signature of these athletes, who can now negotiate with other clubs.

Reinforcements in the rearguard

Apart from Jonathan Tah, who is a signing that is very advanced, there are several profiles that could interest the Barcelona club in the free agent market. With the centre of the defence well covered, the club can reinforce the sides with two proven players in their position. Alexander-Arnold, a 26-year-old right-back who plays for Liverpool could be a good option. A profile practically opposite to Koundé, very offensive and anarchic, although with immense talent. On the other side, Alphonso Davies, 24 years old, the classic long-distance winger, will be free.

Both the 'reds' and Bayern are trying to renew their players and there are several clubs attentive. However, despite the fact that Barça is following them, it seems difficult for them to get there, as they have salary demands that the club cannot meet. Likewise, the Barça squad already has two starting players in those positions. If the technical secretariat considers it necessary to reinforce the sides, it is most likely that the hypothetical arrivals would be to complement what is already there, not to replace Koundé or Balde.

Possible signings for the midfield

The Blaugrana midfield is full of talent, although they are all very young. Dani Olmo (26) and Frenkie de Jong (27) are the only ones over 22 years old. That is why, taking advantage of the fact that there are proven profiles in the market, Barça could choose to reinforce itself. One of the weakest positions is the pivot, not because Casadó is a bad footballer, but because he does not have a clear replacement in his position. In 2025, two defensive midfielders already known by the technical secretariat and who are surely being monitored, will end their contracts.

Joshua Kimmich and Thomas Partey, aged 29 and 31, may be footballers without a club this summer, unless the situation with Bayern and Arsenal changes. Both players have been linked with a move to the Blaugrana several times, especially the German, who has been a target for the Catalans for several summers. However, the high price of his salary makes it difficult for this signing to happen. On the other hand, the Ghanaian is an interesting profile, as he knows LaLiga and has a lower status, which makes him a good complement to Marc Casadó.

Artillery for Hansi Flick

If Deco wants world-class reinforcements for the attack without paying a transfer fee, 2025 is his year. World-class footballers such as Mohamed Salah (32 years old, Liverpool), Heung Min Son (32 years old, Tottenham) and Leroy Sané (28 years old, Bayern) are six months away from being free agents and are very interesting. It is certain that they will ask for a high salary and signing bonus but, depending on the needs that the technical secretariat detects, they can be good options.

Another player whose contract will expire in 2025 is Jonathan David, who has finished 2024 scoring goals. He publicly declared himself a fan of FC Barcelona in an interview and is being followed by the Blaugrana scouting team. His club, Lille, refuses to give up on him, but it is very likely that the Canadian striker is already thinking about a bigger challenge.
