FC Barcelona are taking steps towards signing the German central defender, which would mean there will be departures in the backline. Andreas Christensen could be one of them.

Calendar of FC Barcelona

Jonathan Tah is a player that Barça has been following for some time. Contacts with the German and his agent, Pini Zahavi, who is close to Joan Laporta, are progressing positively. Deco travelled to Leverkusen last Thursday to meet with the defender and take a big step towards securing his signature as a free agent. While this operation progresses, it is clear that there are players who will lose their place in the team, as not all of them can play.

Andreas Christensen is one of those who could be transferred. Due to his Achilles tendon injury, he has only played 26 official minutes this season, in the first matchday of LaLiga, as a pivot. The Dane has a good reputation in Europe and Barça could take advantage of this situation to make money off a player who arrived for free. In addition, as his contract ends in 2026, this year is the time to renew or transfer him.

Jonathan Tah, a defender Flick likes

Hansi Flick is a man who knows Bundesliga players and Germans perfectly. From the time he began his career as a professional coach in 2000 until he signed for Barça, he spent 24 years in which he was in contact with the football of his country. That is why he knows perfectly well what players are in the league and is a wild card when it comes to reinforcing the squad.

Jonathan Tah, 28 years old, besides being a good market opportunity, is a footballer that the FC Barcelona coach likes. He is powerful and a safe player with the ball at his feet, although his main problem is speed. He works best in a back three, as is the case in Xabi Alonso's Bayer Leverkusen, so that his teammates can compensate for his lack of pace. He would be a good complement to the Barça defence.

Christensen could leave Barça

If one comes in, another must go. It is obvious when all the positions are full. The Barça squad has 6 central defenders for 2 positions: Koundé, who is already established as a full-back, Araujo, Cubarsí, Iñigo Martínez, Eric García and Christensen. Given such overbooking, which is not a problem now due to injuries, there will have to be farewells so that new players can arrive.

Christensen, the same age as Tah, is one of the main candidates to leave the Barça team. He has barely played this season and his contractual situation makes his departure easier. In addition, he is less versatile than other teammates in this position, such as Eric García, who can play as a right-back, a centre-back and a pivot. Regarding a transfer, any type of income will be beneficial, since he arrived as a free agent in 2022. He is a good player but, if the coach has other preferences, it is not crazy to think about getting rid of him.
