FC Barcelona is interested in the signing of Alphonso Davies. However, this interest is hindered by a specific reason, what is it?

Does FC Barcelona need to strengthen the left-back position? That question does not have a clear answer at this moment. However, it is evident that the sports management of the blue and red team is considering various options to give a quality boost to its squad in that position, where the young starter, Alejandro Balde, has shown some occasional doubts due to his age and is still in the process of developing some tools to become a 'top' player worldwide.

In this context, a possible interest of Barcelona in Alphonso Davies, a choice that fits well in the Barcelona sports project for several reasons, has been mentioned. The Buduburam native is a top-level global left-back, an international with the Canadian national team, known by the Barcelona coach Hansi Flick (with whom he coincided at Bayern Munich) and, moreover, could join the club as a free agent, as his contract expires on June 30, 2025 and has not yet been renewed, although recent reports suggest that it is likely to be extended.

However, despite the attractiveness and possible necessity of acquiring the services of Alphonso Davies in the next summer transfer window for Barcelona, there is a significant obstacle in the negotiations: the cost involved in hiring the player, even as a free agent.

The reason why Barcelona finds it challenging to face the signing of Alphonso Davies

As reported in 'Mundo Deportivo', the acquisition of Alphonso Davies, although appealing to the Barcelona squad, would not be easy to manage for Barcelona, primarily due to the signing fee that the left-back's agent would be requesting, around €30 million, along with the presumed salary demand of the Canadian, approximately €12 million annually. This amount would be prohibitive for the Catalan team.

Therefore, it would not be surprising if Barça is losing ground in the race for the Davies signing, a race in which, for example, Real Madrid has not withdrawn, as they have identified the player as a target and continue to hope to secure his services next summer, especially now that his proximity to certain elements of the Real Madrid squad, such as Jude Bellingham has been revealed. However, it is clear that this potential transfer will not be straightforward, as it remains to be seen if Bayern Munich will make a final effort to renew the Canadian's contract. Will they succeed, or will Alphonso end up at another club?
