FC Barcelona has made it a market priority for summer 2025 to acquire a left-back. In addition to Alphonso Davies, the club has several options 'in sight'

Calendar of FC Barcelona

The FC Barcelona board continues to 'scour' the market in search of a left-back capable of challenging Alejandro Balde for the starting position in 2025. The poor performances of Gerard Martín in LaLiga highlight the need to bring in a player with more experience to cover the left flank, and for now, the alternative that is being talked about the most is Alphonso Davies.

However, beyond the possibility of acquiring the Canadian international on a free transfer, his extremely high salary leads Deco to consider much more affordable options for the club's finances. Among the 'dark horses' for the position is Álex Valle, a former Barça youth player who has significantly raised his level at Celtic Glasgow. The player from Badalona's contract with the Scottish team ends in 2025, a determining factor in trying to bring him back.

Tagliafico and Caio Henrique, two alternatives gaining traction

Another player who could arrive in Barcelona on a free transfer in 2025 is Nicolás Tagliafico. The Argentine international has yet to renew with Olympique Lyon, but he has maintained his starting position when he is physically fit. This season, the South American defender has scored a couple of goals in 11 appearances with the French team, leaving very good impressions in the Europa League and Ligue 1.

Caio Henrique's situation is more complex. The Brazilian is shining with Monaco, although he has been left out of Adi Hütter's starting eleven in several league and Champions League matches. However, he has a contract until 2027 and is unlikely to leave for less than 20 million euros, considering he is still a young player (27 years old) with enormous potential.

The Alphonso Davies option gains strength in recent hours

On the other hand, Alphonso Davies has gained ground in recent days due to his distancing from Real Madrid, as Florentino Pérez seems to have run out of patience with the player from Buduburam due to his lack of response. Although the Canadian international has a good offer from Bayern Munich to renew, he prefers to wait a few months to define his next step as a professional. This factor could open the door for Barça, as long as the player agrees to lower his salary.
