Mysteries continue to be unraveled regarding the squad numbers that the FC Barcelona players will wear in the upcoming 2024/25 season. According to the information published on LaLiga's official website, the two new Barcelona players who have already been assigned their numbers for this season are Pau Cubarsí and Eric García.
What number will Pau Cubarsí adopt?
In the case of Cubarsí, who in his brief but successful experience in the top category wore number 33, after being officially registered as a first-team player for this season, he had to change his number due to the rules of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), which state that when a player leaves their subsidiary, they must use a number between 1 and 25.
This time, the 17-year-old defender has been assigned the '2', commonly associated with right-backs and previously worn by João Cancelo last season. This choice sparked speculation about whether this change implied a 'renunciation' by Barcelona to their chances of re-signing the Portuguese full-back, who, if he returns to the club, will have to choose a new number.
Eric García, no surprises
On the other hand, in the case of Eric García, there were no surprises as he will continue with the '24', which he has used since the beginning of his time as a Barça player in the 2021/22 season. With this, FC Barcelona has largely clarified the situation regarding squad numbers for the upcoming season.
Now it remains to be determined which numbers Ansu Fati and Clément Lenglet will wear, as their continuity in the team for the 24/25 season is not so clear. Additionally, it is pending to confirm when the registrations of Iñigo Martínez, Álex Valle, Pablo Torre, Vitor Roque, and the new signings Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor will be officially announced.
