Víctor Font is back in the news. The former candidate for the FC Barcelona presidency appeared before the press on September 10 to give his opinion on the most talked about issues of the Blaugrana club in recent weeks. Among them, the electoral progress, the impossibility of signing Nico Williams and even Frenkie de Jong's refusal to undergo surgery for his sprained ankle.

In his conversation with the press, the Spanish businessman was clear: "We ask Joan Laporta to call elections next summer." If it doesn't happen, "we will continue to monitor and be on top of it, shedding light on the darkness and asking for it to be so." For Font, in the Blaugrana entity there is a "propaganda story that is full of inconsistencies, unrealities, lies... All this is unacceptable." In relation to this, he 'attacked' president Joan Laporta, for everything that the operation undertaken this summer with the aim of signing Nico Williams meant.

English:Font: "They were deceiving us with Nico Williams"

Font considered that the possible purchase of the Athletic Bilbao player was a false promise by Laporta, who in an interview with 'Barça One' said that the player could be signed this summer. "I knew for a fact that they were deceiving us with Nico Williams and that there were exercises of voluntarism. An interview of mine came out in foreign media where the headline was: 'Barça cannot sign Nico Williams'. And well! The opinions that came out of there... But why? Because people believe the club's story. But after they have promised us something 'X' times and it is not fulfilled, then it will happen like in the tale of the shepherd and the ears, that the people will no longer go," said the Spaniard.

Let's remember that the winger's 65 million euro release clause represented a difficult amount for Barça to assume in a single payment, especially because Dani Olmo's transfer was made thanks to RB Leipzig accepting a payment in instalments. Added to this, the player was not guaranteed that he would be registered immediately, which could have been reason enough for him to stay in Bilbao for another season. Font also complained about Laporta's refusal to talk about the Athletic attacker in his latest statements: "We say that we can sign Nico but then we cannot talk about players from another club."

The Spaniard spoke with Frenkie de Jong

As a final 'blow' to Laporta, the leader of the opposition group 'Sí al futur', revealed that he had a conversation with Frenkie de Jong. The Dutch midfielder remains on the club's injured list as he has opted for conservative treatment to heal his sprained ankle, which he has been carrying since the Clásico against Real Madrid last season.

At this time, his return remains an enigma and there is no clear date for his return to the field of play. The businessman assured that the Dutchman told him the reason why he refuses to undergo surgery: "I met him by chance this past weekend and he told me that he prefers not to undergo surgery, that although the club has proposed it to him, they do not give him any guarantees of success," he concluded.
