FIFA will pay more than 6 million euros to Barça for Gavi's injury. The figure will be computed as income in the years 23/24 and 24/25
Gavi's return is just around the corner. After being on the sidelines for almost a year due to a serious injury to his right knee, everything indicates that the midfielder will once again be on the FC Barcelona squad list next Sunday, October 20, when the Catalans host Sevilla at Montjuïc. Specifically, that day will mark 335 days since he tore his cruciate ligament against Georgia with Spain on November 19, 2023.
Due to this setback, Barça will receive more than six million euros from FIFA corresponding to compensation for the youth squad's long-term injury, which is part of the club protection program. According to 'Mundo Deportivo', the Blaugranas have already calculated 4,643,848 euros in the settlement of the 2023-24 financial year for the 226 days injured until June 30, 2024.
Once they enter the 2024-2025 financial year, the Catalans will calculate the rest of the final amount, that is, 1,684,936 euros of the 6,328,784 total, for the days between July 1, 2024 and the medical discharge, which could occur on the aforementioned October 20.
Barça could receive up to 7 million if Gavi returns a year later
Everything points to Gavi being given the all-clear for the clash against the Sevillian side, but if his absence were to be extended to November 19 this year, 365 years after his injury against Georgia, the Catalans' income would go from the 6,328,784 euros expected to 6,924,676 euros.
On the other hand, if his absence is postponed to December 16, a year after the FIFA compensation programme came into effect after the 28 consecutive days of the Andalusian's physical setback, the total amount would be the maximum 7.5 million euros that said programme includes for the 365 consecutive days of absence from a playing field. However, everything indicates that the '6' will be on the bench at Montjuïc when the international break returns.
