A well-known French media outlet announced the scores obtained by the 30 nominees for the 2024 Ballon d'Or, and at FCBN we explain how many points these stars added
A recent event that generated quite a controversy in the football world was the selection of Rodri Hernández as the winner of the Ballon d'Or 2024. Why? Several sectors argued that the award should have gone to the Real Madrid forward, Vinicius Jr., as was initially speculated, which apparently changed at the last moment. This resulted in the absence of Real Madrid representatives at the gala and triggered a controversial situation.
Now, with the aim of settling the controversy, the French media 'L'Équipe' has released the exact results of this voting and the point difference between the 30 competitors for the Ballon d'Or 2024, revealing the narrow disparity between the first and second place.
According to the metrics from 'L'Équipe', Rodri Hernández accumulated a total of 1,170 points, while Vinicius Jr. from Real Madrid obtained 1,129 points, a difference of 41 points. This gap was decisive for the talented Spanish midfielder to take the distinction, becoming the third Spanish player to win this award and the first since 1960, when Luis Suárez achieved it.
And how did Lamine Yamal and Dani Olmo fare?
Speaking in terms of Barcelona, regarding Lamine Yamal, the player from the Blaugrana team who ranked highest in this voting, not only finished ahead of other equally talented players like Toni Kroos (Real Madrid), Harry Kane (Bayern Munich), Florian Wirtz (Bayer Leverkusen) and Nico Williams (Athletic Club), but he also placed eighth overall, accumulating a total of 383 points.
This score placed him very close to seventh place, occupied by Lautaro Martínez (Inter Milan) with 402 points, and not far from sixth place held by Real Madrid's Kylian Mbappé, who scored a total of 420 points.
Meanwhile, the other Barcelona player appearing on the list was Dani Olmo, positioned a few steps lower in thirteenth place, with a total of 86 points, and a difference of only 15 points with respect to the nearest position, held by the German star of Bayer Leverkusen, Florian Wirtz (12th), who reached a total of 101 points.
