Pep Guardiola made some shocking statements after Manchester City's defeat to Manchester United. The Catalan appeared completely crushed
The crisis of Manchester City has only worsened after the painful loss suffered last Sunday against Manchester United. The team led by Rúben Amorim turned around a 1-0 deficit in just two minutes, handing the 'skyblues' their eighth defeat of the season, the fifth in the Premier League.
At the end of the city derby, a devastated Pep Guardiola spoke to the microphones of the 'BBC' to share his feelings after the defeat. "There is not much to say. There was no defense, they were incredibly persistent. In two seasons we had not lost so many matches. We cannot defend that. It's not about this or that player. We gave away goals, it's our fault," he admitted.
Pep, hard on himself
The former coach of FC Barcelona later downplayed the blame on Matheus Nunes after the double error that initiated the debacle against United. "In the area, you have to be careful. It's not about Matheus, he played very well in a position that is not his, as a fullback. It's not about that, but we have to play better. We can only move forward," he stated.
Finally, Guardiola was extremely self-critical and took full responsibility for the crisis his team is going through. "I am not good enough. I am the boss, the coach, I have to find solutions and so far I haven't done it. That is the reality. We gave away two goals. But this is not the worst defeat in my nine years in charge. The defeats in the Champions League are harder," he concluded.
In the coming week, the 'skyblues' will face a series of three matches in 7 days (Aston Villa, Everton, and Leicester) in which they will seek a victory that allows them to end the year on a positive note, although, as of today, there seems to be no solution to extinguish the fire that is raging at the Etihad Stadium.
