Robert Lewandowski started 2025 in the best way with FC Barcelona. The Polish striker broke a streak of three consecutive games without scoring with a brace against UD Barbastro (0-4)

Calendar of FC Barcelona

FC Barcelona advanced to the round of 16 of the 2024-25 Copa del Rey with a comfortable victory on the field of UD Barbastro (0-4). The Huesca team, unlike last season's matchup, barely put up any resistance to a Barça that sealed the match right after the start of the second half, thanks to a brace from Robert Lewandowski. The Polish striker scored in the 31st and 47th minutes to end a streak of three consecutive games without scoring that he closed 2024 with.

The '9' found many opportunities to hurt Barbastro's defense, especially through aerial play. In the 10th minute, he had his first clear chance, thanks to a cross from Pedri at mid-height that the experienced forward headed just wide. 20 minutes later, 'Lewy' extended the lead that the Catalans had achieved in the 21st minute thanks to a header from Eric García.

Once again, the Warsaw native prevailed in the air, redirecting a free kick from Pablo Torre from the right. The ball hit the back of a rival before ending up in the back of the net. After the break, in the first dangerous play of the second half, Torre again set up Lewandowski, this time with a through ball. Robert anticipated Santigosa to finish low in a one-on-one against Fàbrega.

Lewandowski completed another 'perfect' day in Barbastro

Hansi Flick rested the forward with half an hour left, bringing in Ansu Fati. In 62 minutes, Lewandowski completed 12 of 16 passes (75%), as well as three shots on goal (one off target), a couple of duels won out of four contested, and three balls recovered. His best opportunities came from the air, given the fragility of the rival defense in aerial play.

With his brace in Barbastro, the Pole has now scored 25 goals in the same number of matches this season. 16 of those goals have come in LaLiga, while the remaining 7 were scored in the Champions League. In both tournaments, 'Lewy' remains the top scorer. Additionally, the '9' has reached 83 goals in 120 official matches with Barça, surpassing Txiki Begiristain (81 goals) to enter the Top-30 of historical scorers for the club.
