FC Barcelona has several clear discards that it wants to make this summer no matter what. Atlético de Madrid has been interested in one of them and the operation could be close to being finalized. It would be the second exit from the market for the culés
Several weeks ago, Atlético de Madrid ruled out the signing of one of FC Barcelona's centre-backs due to his high salary. The player earns 16 million euros gross at Barça and the Blaugrana sporting director, Deco, has been desperately searching for weeks for a club that will pay his emoluments in full. This is Clément Lenglet, 29 years old, who has a contract until 2026, but whom Hansi Flick no longer wants to see in Barcelona.
According to 'El Desmarque', now the 'colchoneros' have resumed negotiations to keep the Frenchman. The operation could be well advanced and an agreement could be reached in the coming days. It is expected to be a simple transfer in which the red and whites pay an important part of the salary, thus freeing Barça from that heavy burden. Simeone's interest in the Frenchman would have been key to the operation.
The operation, pending two Atleti signings
However, before completing the move, Atleti must prepare its accounts. It is worth remembering that the Madrid team is currently very close to signing Julián Álvarez. In the case of the Argentine, his arrival in Spain would be for an initial price of 75 million euros plus another 15 for objectives. In addition, there is also an agreement with Gallagher, so before taking Lenglet those two transfers would have to be finalized and also some sale for a Fair Play issue.
If all goes well, the red and white team will receive a central defender with experience in LaLiga and eager to vindicate himself. Although Lenglet has had several weak years in which he has not been able to be important in the Premier and has also failed in Barcelona, he has interesting qualities that a coach like Simeone could take advantage of. For Barça it would be a good operation, since they will be able to save their high salary and, if he recovers part of his best level in Madrid, they will be able to make money for him in 2025.
