Andreas Christensen was one of the highlights of FC Barcelona's open training session this Sunday. The Danish player trained alongside his teammates and is expected to receive medical clearance soon.

Calendar of FC Barcelona

FC Barcelona hopes to recover Andreas Christensen in the coming days. This Sunday, the Danish player participated in the traditional open training session that the club holds before the end of the year, where the team usually returns to work after a short Christmas break. The '15' trained normally on the grass of the Estadi Johan Cruyff and should receive medical clearance during the first days of January.

The player from Lillerød only played 26 minutes in matchday 1 of LaLiga, just before being diagnosed with a tendinopathy in his left Achilles that kept him out of action for the entire first half of the season. Due to the long-term nature of the injury, Barça took advantage of his absence to register Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor, the only reinforcements signed last summer. However, the registration of both was only activated until December 31.

Christensen, almost ready to return with Barça

In Christensen's case, the player will have no problems returning in the four competitions that the culés are competing in during the 2024/25 season. In his previous two seasons as a Barça player, the 28-year-old defender has played 75 official matches, scoring 4 goals and providing 3 assists. Although he was never undisputed in Xavi Hernández's starting XI, the Danish player was one of the most used center-backs by the coach from Egar.

Last season, after the injuries to Frenkie de Jong and the low level shown by Oriol Romeu, the coach opted to place the '15' as a defensive pivot, and the former Chelsea player did not disappoint, as he used to play as a libero in a three-center-back line in London, alongside Antonio Rüdiger and Thiago Silva. For Hansi Flick, the player from Lillerød will be a valuable asset if he ultimately stays in the squad, although he will start as the fifth center-back in the German's rotations.

Looking ahead to 2025, Andreas is one of the players marked to leave in the summer, as his transfer could bring around 20 million euros into the culé coffers. Regarding the winter market, it is more complicated to find him a team due to his prolonged inactivity, although there are a couple of clubs interested in bringing him back to England.
