FC Barcelona achieved this Sunday the official title number 100 in its 125 years of history with a historic thrashing against Real Madrid in the Supercopa de España (2-5)

Calendar of FC Barcelona

The final of the Supercopa de España 2025 represented for FC Barcelona the opportunity to make history in double. In addition to maintaining its dominance as the tournament's top winner, with 15 trophies, the club celebrated reaching its one-hundredth official title in 125 years of history of the first team. The victory could not have been better: a 'manita' to Real Madrid, with a historic thrashing, the second of the season in Clásicos for Hansi Flick's team.

Barça also broke its trophy drought after a disappointing 2023-24 season. The culés had not celebrated since winning LaLiga in May 2023 and, in the case of the Supercopa, they avenged the final lost last year in Riyadh. Things did not start well for the azulgrana team in Jeddah, after Kylian Mbappé scored in the 5th minute.

However, Barça maintained control of the game and ended up turning the score around with authority, thanks to goals from Lamine Yamal, Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha, and Alejandro Balde. The culés went into halftime with an unassailable 1-4, which became a 'manita' in the 48th minute with Raphinha's second goal. If it weren't for Szczesny's expulsion, the match was shaping up to be a scandalous beating.

Barça narrows the gap with Real Madrid in their trophy count

The fifteenth Supercopa de España also means maintaining the azulgrana dominance in the tournament, as Madrid was only one title (13) away from equaling the azulgrana team. The 'merengues' maintain a slight advantage in the overall trophy count over Barça. The 'White House' has 105 official trophies, the latest being the Intercontinental Cup won last December against Pachuca from Mexico (3-0).

The culés, on the other hand, are five titles away from equaling their biggest rival, and in the Clásicos history, the gap between the two is also narrowing. Sunday marked the 259th encounter between Barça and Madrid. The 'merengues' have 105 victories, compared to 102 Catalan wins and 52 draws in official competitions. The goal difference also favors Madrid, with 435 goals for and 428 against.
