Javier Tebas lashed out against Real Madrid and its 'snub' to the Ballon d'Or. The executive said that "we also experience this lack of elegance in Spain"
Real Madrid was one of the main protagonists of the Ballon d'Or ceremony, and not precisely for the award received for the best team of the year or the recognition of Carlo Ancelotti as the best coach of the season. The Merengue club made the institutional decision not to send any representative to Paris to take part in an event in which Vinicius Jr. would be defeated by Rodri Hernández.
A decision that has been highly questioned by the entire world of football, and Javier Tebas has been the latest to join the list. The president of LaLiga harshly criticised the absence of the white club in an interview given to 'L'Equipe', assuring that they should have attended the ceremony and that their "victimhood is exaggerated".
Tebas' brutal 'rant'
"I'm a Madrid fan. The important values of this club are to be a gentleman and to shake hands when you lose. I think that Real Madrid lost that mentality a long time ago. They should have gone to the ceremony and not questioned the France Football system, which is transparent, with 100 journalists voting," Tebas began by saying, before later 'slamming' the White House for its attitude.
"Real Madrid's victimhood makes no sense and is exaggerated. I don't know where they are going. This lack of elegance is also experienced in Spain"
The full interview of the president of the employers' association with the French newspaper will be published this Wednesday in the printed edition, but the French newspaper offered a preview of the director's opinion on the Ballon d'Or.
