Hansi Flick was expelled in the second half of the Betis-Barça Liga match. The controversial red card came surprisingly after the referee, at the request of VAR, signaled a penalty for Frenkie de Jong's foul on Vitor Roque. The referee's report stated that the FC Barcelona coach had approached the main referee "leaving the technical area, shouting and gesturing" in protest of one of his decisions.
However, during the live broadcast of the match, what happened could not be seen. Fortunately, a DAZN camera was able to capture the moment and has published the images on its official channel on social media X. The video has provoked an immediate reaction from thousands of fans, who were in disbelief upon seeing what really happened.
And indeed, Hansi Flick's gesture is so harmless that it goes completely unnoticed. In fact, the referee Muñiz Ruiz didn't even realize it, but ended up expelling the Barça coach at the request of the fourth official.
Barça has already filed an appeal with the Competition Committee, aware that such infractions can be punished with two or three matches of suspension. However, after seeing the images and considering the seriousness of what happened, the club should raise the tone and demand an immediate rectification.
Flick spoke about his expulsion
Regarding Muñiz Ruiz's decision to show him the red card, the German stated that "I don't think I complained much. It took him a long time to look at it, and if it takes that long, maybe it wasn't. I'm not proud of myself (for the expulsion), someone told the referee something and they decided to give me the red card".
