Leo Messi made clear his desire to return to Barcelona in the future, the city he has always considered his home. In an interview for the 'El Nou Clam' programme on 'TV3', La Pulga 'gave his thoughts' on his plans for the future and also spoke about the current state of a Barça that he sees in a "spectacular" moment.
"My children, my wife and I miss Barcelona a lot. We have friends and we left a lot of things there. My children are Catalan. I lived all my life in Barcelona, I feel like I'm from there and I miss it a lot. You never know where life will take you, but our intention is to return because it's our home," explained the Argentine when referring to the city of Barcelona.
And, regarding Hansi Flick's Barça, the '10' was full of praise for the team and the work of the German, especially for giving so much confidence to the young players. "It's a great source of pride to see how the first team is represented right now. This Barça is spectacular and it doesn't surprise me. It's nothing new, it's been happening forever," Leo began.
Hansi Flick grateful for Leo Messi's praise
In this sense, he was happy with the confidence placed in the kids, something that he considers fundamental to building a successful cycle. "When you give them confidence, they respond in that way because they know the club better than anyone else and they are used to playing like this since they were little. If you support them, these things happen, as happened in our time," argued Messi.
In this regard, Hansi Flick thanked the Rosario native for his praise at the press conference prior to the Celta-Barça match this Saturday. "It's an honour to hear the best player in history say this. He follows the team closely. We see that he always has his heart set on this club and it means a lot to us," said the German manager.
Leo Messi's return to Barcelona will have to wait
Despite the affection between Messi and Barça, Leo's return to the club will have to wait. Initially, La Pulga was expected to be present next Friday, November 29 at the club's 125th anniversary gala, but everything points to the fact that the Rosario native will not be at the Gran Teatre del Liceu, the venue chosen for the official celebrations after the delay in the works at Camp Nou.
Leo will participate in a commemorative video for the club, but other previously scheduled commitments will prevent him from travelling to Catalonia that day, although he has already concluded his participation with Inter Miami in the MLS Cup. The last time the '10' had direct contact with the club was at his official farewell, in August 2021.
