UNCERTAIN FUTURE
Luis de la Fuente, in limbo: the RFEF has not yet presented its renewal offer
The Spanish coach remains without a contract, waiting for the RFEF to formalize the renewal offer
Despite a brilliant 2024 in which he led the Spanish national team to its fourth European Championship, Luis de la Fuente finds himself in an unexpected and disconcerting position: he has not yet received a formal offer of renewal from the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF).
The coach, who successfully took office and revitalized Spain's competitive spirit, has a clear objective: to close this pending chapter before the team travels to Saudi Arabia to play the Spanish Super Cup. Although his contract renewal until the 2026 World Cup was announced last June, six months later the final offer has not been formalized.
Changes at the RFEF and a lack of clarity
The change of president at the RFEF, with the arrival of Louzán, has further complicated the process. According to Roberto Gómez in ElDesmarque Madrugada, neither the coach nor his legal team have received official documentation for the extension of the contract.
“It's strange. The new president has been in office for 20 days and he has not yet been contacted," said Gomez. He also said that Luis de la Fuente and his lawyers have scheduled a meeting with the Federation next week to try to reach an agreement in principle.
