The year 2024 is already in the discount time, and at FCBN, after a year full of interesting movements in terms of signings, we have compiled a 'top' list of the 10 most notable additions. Among them are high-profile negotiations like Kylian Mbappé's signing by Real Madrid, as well as other profitable and surprising acquisitions such as Mateo Retegui by Atalanta Bergamasca. Would you like to know which ones are the most notable so far in the 2024-25 season? Here we present our 'top 10':
Kylian Mbappé - Real Madrid
The 'top' of 2024 in media terms began with an addition that truly revolutionized the football landscape: the arrival of Kylian Mbappé at Real Madrid. The prolonged and dramatic 'soap opera', which seemed never-ending, finally concluded on June 3, when the white club officially announced the long-awaited signing.
The contract was sealed with a five-season link and, although it did not involve the payment of a transfer fee, it did represent a considerable financial outlay for Real Madrid, including signing bonuses, salary, and other additions typical of a negotiation of such magnitude.
The forward was presented as a true star on July 16 in a packed Santiago Bernabéu, where fans could see him for the first time wearing the white jersey and hear him proclaim his iconic “¡Hala Madrid!”. This moment marked the beginning of his journey with the merengue team, an adventure that, although it hasn't started as overwhelmingly as expected, has produced interesting numbers: 13 goals and three assists in 23 matches. The team from Chamartín hopes these numbers will continue to grow in the future.
Dani Olmo - FC Barcelona
In the realm of major signings for 2024, the arrival of Dani Olmo at FC Barcelona cannot be overlooked. The player from Terrassa joined the blaugrana team during last summer's transfer market for a fee of €55 million, linking him with the Catalan entity until June 30, 2030. The prodigal son returned home, having left in 2014 without having the opportunity to debut in the first team.
Dani Olmo arrived with the label of being one of the great players of the Euro 2024, with hopes of starting to stand out in the blue and garnet jersey in front of his fans. Since then, he has proven to be a 'top' player, showcasing his talent as a creative magician who performs exceptionally in the attacking midfielder position, just as he did at Dinamo Zagreb and RB Leipzig. What has been the result so far? The player from Egar has totaled six goals and one assist in 15 matches.
Julián Álvarez - Atlético de Madrid
Atlético de Madrid achieved one of the big hits of the summer transfer market in 2024 by securing the services of Julián Álvarez, one of the most sought-after forwards in Europe. The Argentine arrived at Cívitas Metropolitano with a contract that ties him to the club until 2030, after the 'Colchoneros' paid €75 million to Manchester City. This acquisition represented an opportunity for the player from Calchín to seek the starting '9' role he so deserved and desired.
Since his arrival at Atlético de Madrid, Julián Álvarez has proven to be an exceptional addition. To date, in the 2024-25 season, he has stood out as one of the top scorers of the 'rojiblanco' squad, netting 12 goals and two assists in 26 matches. 'La Araña' has positioned himself as a highly profitable signing for the team managed by 'Cholo' Simeone.
Mason Greenwood - Olympique de Marseille
Another player who, to date, has emerged as one of the major signings of 2024 and, in general, of the current 2024-25 season, is Mason Greenwood. The right winger, who during the 2023-24 season managed to relaunch his career with an impressive performance while on loan at Getafe CF, has continued his good streak in French football, regaining his smile at Olympique de Marseille under Roberto De Zerbi, a team he joined after being transferred from Manchester United for €26 million.
Greenwood has transformed into one of the standout players in the French league, at least as reflected in the statistics: 11 goals and two assists in 16 matches, competing for the title of top scorer in Ligue 1. His addition has proven to be very profitable for Marseille and is expected to continue improving.
Savinho - Manchester City
Savinho has positioned himself as one of the most interesting signings of 2024, and how could he not be? He arrived after a stellar 2023-24 season with Girona in LaLiga EA Sports, which led him to Manchester City for a fee of €25 million, in an agreement that links him to the 'citizen' club until June 30, 2029.
He arrived without a defined role in Pep Guardiola's sporting plans, becoming a valuable alternative for both wings, especially on the right flank. Currently, he has contributed one goal and six assists in 24 matches, being one of the few bright spots in the dark moment the Manchester City is going through.
Michael Olise - Bayern Munich
The Bayern Munich has made an acquisition that could easily be considered a 'bargain'. They paid €53 million to Crystal Palace to secure the services of Michael Olise, a right winger who has brought pace and danger to the right flank of the Bavarian team, becoming one of the main offensive references for Vincent Kompany's team, with a total of nine goals and nine assists in 23 matches.
Olise, whose contract with Bayern Munich extends until June 30, 2029, has positioned himself as the team's third leading scorer, only behind Harry Kane (with 20 goals) and Jamal Musiala (with 14). He is also the team leader in assists. It is a highly interesting signing that is demonstrating astonishing potential.
Mateo Retegui - Atalanta Bergamasca
The leadership of Atalanta Bergamasca in Serie A so far this 2024-25 season cannot be explained without mentioning one particular name: Mateo Retegui. The Italo-Argentine arrived this summer of 2024 from Genoa for €22 million and has proven to be a highly profitable investment for Gian Piero Gasperini's team, as he currently has netted 14 goals and provided four assists in 25 matches. He is the current 'Capocannoniere' of the Italian tournament with 12 goals. Impeccable performance.
Dominic Solanke - Tottenham Hotspur
In light of the absence of a scorer of Harry Kane's caliber, Tottenham Hotspur went into the summer market in search of a 'killer' and came across one of the standout signings of 2024: Dominic Solanke.
The player from Basingstoke has made a leap to a higher-tier team in English football, after the 'Spurs' paid €64.3 million to AFC Bournemouth to secure his addition (until June 30, 2030), which has resulted in a notable contribution of goals: 10 goals in 25 matches, placing him as the second top scorer for the London team. He has also shown himself to be one of the main assist providers for Tottenham, with four assists. A complete forward and undoubtedly one of the most profitable signings of 2024.
Serhou Guirassy - Borussia Dortmund
The Borussia Dortmund, if anything has characterized it, is its ability to make strategic reinforcements, and the forward line was no exception. The German team managed to address the absence of Niclas Füllkrug by acquiring Serhou Guirassy, who had stood out at Stuttgart, being one of the top scorers in the Bundesliga in the 2023-24 season.
The Franco-Guinean forward has maintained his excellent scoring rhythm in the current 2024-25 season: he has accumulated 12 goals and four assists in 19 matches. A consolidated area predator whose performance undoubtedly places him prominently on lists like this, as one of the best signings of 2024.
David Raya - Arsenal
To conclude this 'top 10', without a specific order regarding the standout signings of 2024, is one of the acquisitions that is not necessarily related to goal scorers: David Raya.
The Spanish goalkeeper arrived at Arsenal from Brentford during the last summer market for a total of €31.9 million. His arrival has brought great security to the 'Gunner' team in goal, being the second goalkeeper with the most clean sheets in this 2024-25 Premier League season, with a total of seven. He has become a stellar addition for Mikel Arteta's team, securing his services until June 30, 2028.
