UEFA continues to work hard on restructuring its competitions to maximise their profitability and attractiveness. Following the changes implemented in the format of the Champions League, Europa League and Conference League from 2024/25, the next tournament to undergo a major change would be the European Super Cup, a competition that since 1998 has been played as a single match between the Champions League and Europa League winners.
According to the latest information, UEFA is considering two alternatives to boost the Super Cup. On the one hand, the tournament could be transformed into a final four where, in addition to the two current champions in the tournament, the Conference League champion would also participate, along with the current Major League Soccer (MLS) champion. The format would include two semi-finals, a match for third place and the final, with matches to be played in the United States during the month of August.

The other option is to maintain the current format of the Super Cup, with a single match to be played on European soil between the champions of the Conference and the Europa League. In that case, the Champions League winner would play a new, separate tournament, with a format similar to the one mentioned above (a final four) that included the current Champions League runner-up and two invited clubs.
At the moment, nothing is official, but it is likely that the changes will be announced before the end of 2024. Unlike previous years, UEFA has not yet confirmed the venue for the 2025 Super Cup, a tournament that Real Madrid and Atalanta played in Warsaw this summer (2-0). With their victory against the Italians, the 'Casa Blanca' surpassed FC Barcelona and AC Milan as the tournament's top winner, with six titles.
