Federico Chiesa's situation at Anfield Road is already a headache for the 'red' coaching staff. The Italian does not find his place in England

Calendar of FC Barcelona

Federico Chiesa, who arrived at Anfield this summer with the promise of strengthening Liverpool's attack, is going through a difficult moment in his career. The Italian winger signed for the Reds in exchange for 12 million euros, after a summer marked by uncertainty.

In the final stretch of the market, there was talk of the Italian's possible arrival at FC Barcelona, but he finally chose the proposal of coach Arne Slot, who trusted in his potential even though the player could not carry out the preseason due to his separation from Juventus under Thiago Motta.

"It is difficult for a player who has not been able to do the preseason and has not been able to play or train. We have to give him more time to reach the levels of intensity that we need," explained Slot, aware of the complexity of the situation. Chiesa even had to train on occasions with the reserve team before making his debut in the Premier League.

Slot has 'deleted' Chiesa in recent weeks

His first appearance for Liverpool came on September 17 in the visit to San Siro, a duel where he played only one minute. However, days later, in the match against Bournemouth, he showed flashes of his quality, almost scoring with a shot that hit the post.

From there, his prominence increased until, in his first game as a starter against West Ham, it seemed that he would finally find his place. Against all odds, he disappeared from Slot's plans in the subsequent games, without even appearing in the squad against Wolverhampton.

Although a slight blow to the ankle has slowed his progress, Chiesa's situation in Liverpool is worrying. With Diogo Jota injured and Darwin Núñez far from his best version, Chiesa has not been able to take that step forward that was expected of him. Currently, he is the last in the offensive rotation of a Liverpool team that is performing at a high level.

"I wouldn't use the word worry, but the situation is far from ideal for him and for us. This could have been a great moment for him to have more playing time," Slot commented on the Italian's situation.

Chiesa is running out of space in Liverpool

The reality is that, after his brilliant Euro 2021, Chiesa hoped to establish himself as one of the leaders of the European elite, but his lack of minutes and his uncertain physical condition have left him out of the latest Nations League call-ups. At Liverpool, they have designed a specific training plan for him, although rumors of a departure in January seem unfounded at the moment.

Had he joined Barcelona, the competition for a place in the attacking trident is fierce, where players like Lamine Yamal, Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski are untouchable, the opportunity to stand out would have been an even greater challenge for the former Juventus striker.

However, the Italian has time to turn around his situation at Liverpool and, at least, become a key player for the team's rotation. For now, Chiesa has not finished taking off at Anfield, and his dream of shining in the Premier League remains a pending promise.
