The president of Athletic Club, Jon Uriarte, once again put Nico Williams' possible connection with FC Barcelona on the table. How did he do it? On this occasion, the complaint focuses on the last interaction between the left-winger from Pamplona and the coach of the culé team, Hansi Flick
The encounter between FC Barcelona and Athletic Club (2-1) in the last matchday two of LaLiga EA Sports 24/25 left a scene that apparently was not well received by the top management of the Basque team. Beyond camaraderie and the closeness of the Pamplona native with several of the Culés players (Lamine Yamal, Alejandro Balde, Fermín, Gavi, etc.), a matter that has not been given much relevance, there was a situation that was not well received at all: a particular gesture between the coach of the Catalan team, Hansi Flick, and the 'spicy' left winger.
What did this gesture consist of? At the end of the match between the Basques and the Culés, the German coach greeted the younger of the Williams brothers very effusively. This encounter lasted longer than usual and there was a brief exchange of words between them. Heidelberg's explained later in front of the 'DAZN' microphones the content of that conversation: "I just congratulated him on the Eurocup", settling this matter and avoiding that conversation was linked to any issue related to a possible signing of the '10' of the 'Lions'.

Jon Uriarte's 'message' to Hansi Flick regarding Nico Williams
Now, even though some days have passed since that incident, in his most recent appearance before the media, the president of Athletic Club, Jon Uriarte, did not miss the opportunity during the press conference on the season's goals and the start of the League for the Bilbao team to send a message to Barcelona about this situation. "During the summer, Flick's statements were of total respect saying he was a player of another club. I was surprised to see him congratulating him, but then he explained that he did it for his triumph in the Eurocup. I suppose he would do the same with Vivian, but I didn't see it," the Basque leader asserted.
This new 'message' towards FC Barcelona emerges, coincidentally (or not), after after the 0-1 defeat of Athletic Club against Atletico Madrid last Saturday, August 31st, Nico Williams hinted that his continuity beyond this season was not something that was entirely assured. "It's good that big teams have your name on their agenda, but I've always been clear that I wanted to be here. Athletic is a different feeling. My heart is with Athletic. I have a contract here, but who knows what will happen in the future." This statement, undoubtedly, has caused concern at Athletic Club and perhaps has increased tension towards a Barcelona that, at first, seems to be the most valued destination by the Pamplona native if he were to leave the Basque team.
