Pep Guardiola's future, if he leaves Manchester City, could be associated with one of Europe's historic teams, such as England, who would have shown interest in making him their new coach

The name of Pep Guardiola has been the subject of a great debate recently. Why? This is due to the uncertainty surrounding the future of the strategist at Manchester City, the team he has been with for about eight seasons, especially given that his contract with the 'Sky Blue' ends in 2025. The uncertainty regarding a possible renewal has sparked a debate on what the professional path of the Santpedor master will be. The Manchester City is not giving up on Pep Guardiola in 2025.

The English Football Association is said to have approached Pep Guardiola for the role of national team coach

At this point, a new and unexpected destination has emerged, arousing interest: the England national team. As reported by the English newspaper 'The Times', the English Football Association (FA) is considering the possibility of Pep Guardiola becoming the next national team coach, a position vacant since Gareth Southgate departed after the 'Three Lions' defeat in the Euro final against Spain (2-1). Currently, this position is being temporarily filled by Lee Carsley.

Furthermore, the aforementioned source asserts that the English Football Association has had informal contacts with Guardiola since the beginning of the 2024-25 campaign and hopes that the coach will make a decision in the coming weeks. If this move materializes, it is not entirely clear how it will unfold, as it would be Pep's first foray as a national team coach, having previously successfully managed FC Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and currently Manchester City, accumulating a trophy haul of nearly 39 titles.

Additionally, it needs to be considered whether the English FA could reach an economic agreement with the Catalan coach. As reported by the English newspaper 'The Mirror', the FA is aware that they cannot match the €30 million annual salary that Pep Guardiola currently receives at Manchester City. Although the possibility of him renewing with the 'Citizens' is not ruled out, despite the turbulence surrounding the 'Sky Blue' entity due to the 115 charges of financial rules breaches they are facing which could lead to sanctions.

The FA is also considering other candidates

Now, it cannot be ruled out that the FA is considering other candidates, such as Thomas Tuchel, who has been heavily linked recently for the position, as well as other English coaches like Eddie Howe and Graham Potter. In this regard, Tuchel seems to have a special favor, having expressed interest in the position since July, provided Pep Guardiola does not accept the role.
