Winter transfer market
Barça is awaiting the possible signing of Ilaix Moriba by Celta
The Spanish-Guinean midfielder plays on loan for the Galician team and, due to his good performance, his club is considering a permanent transfer
Ilaix Moriba is having a season of testing under Claudio Giráldez at RC Celta de Vigo. After being loaned out to Valencia and Getafe, as well as having periods of dynamics with RB Leipzig, and not being able to find his place, he has landed on his feet at Balaídos. He arrived in August in a deal that was closed through a loan that includes a purchase option, which is around 5 million euros, and he is offering a phenomenal performance, something that has led him to be key in the plans of the Porriño coach.
In this context, the Celta team is considering executing the aforementioned route to definitively obtain the rights of the player, as explained by several media. It is a more than affordable price for a player who has shown that he has very good conditions. If this operation goes through, Celta would sign an interesting asset to cash in in the future, something that will surely come in handy. However, it is not the only club that would get something positive out of it.
Barça has a 10% stake in a future sale
The Spanish-Guinean midfielder left Can Barça in the summer of 2021. After six months in which he had taken a lot of prominence in Ronald Koeman's plans, he decided to change course. His departure is still a taboo subject, as many factors come into play and each party has its version of the facts, but the absolute truth is that he went to Leipzig in exchange for 16 million euros and 10% of a future sale of the player. Despite Ilaix's great potential, the operation was categorized as successful due to the economic benefit obtained for a youth player who had only one year left on his contract.
If Celta decides to exercise the purchase option, Barça would receive an income of approximately half a million euros. Although it is not a large amount of money, every contribution adds up to the financial recovery of the club. It remains to be seen how this situation ends, but the Catalans will be keeping an eye on an operation that, at the latest, will be completed in six months.
