Barça smiles, since it could receive a great financial benefit thanks to Nico González, a player who arouses interest in Liverpool and of whom the culé club could receive an important percentage of his sale

Calendar of FC Barcelona

If there is something that FC Barcelona has been able to effectively carry out recently, it is negotiations for several of its young academy players who are allowed to join other teams via transfers. The Blaugrana team has chosen to part ways with some players with great potential who, for one reason or another, do not quite fit into the sporting project of Barça. However, they let them go under certain conditions that allow them to benefit if these players manage to 'explode' in the future.

One of the transactions that fits this pattern is that of Nico González. The 22-year-old midfielder, who was initially seen as a possible successor to Sergio Busquets in the Catalan team, never managed to establish himself in the first team at Barça. Therefore, the Catalan club, aiming to make a profit, accepted to sell him to Porto in 2023. In this negotiation, Barça received a fixed €8.5M, in addition to stipulating in the agreement a clause for a future buy-back of around €30M and 40% of a future sale.

It is precisely because of this clause that Barcelona is smiling now, why? Because Nico González has experienced a significant increase in his value, becoming one of the best central midfielders in Portuguese football. He has been a key player in Vitor Bruno's scheme at Porto (with five goals and five assists in 24 matches) and could possibly be experiencing a change of scenery in the upcoming winter transfer window, with interest from one of the 'kings' of Europe willing to make a significant investment in him.

Liverpool would be willing to offer €60M for Nico González

According to 'Anfield Watch', Liverpool, facing the impossibility of signing Martín Zubimendi, would be interested in acquiring the services of Nico González. Under this scenario, the 'Reds' would be willing to pay €60M, even in the next summer transfer market, to secure the services of the Galician midfielder. This would be excellent news for Barcelona in every respect.

If this sale materializes, given that Barça has a 40% share of the profits from a future transfer, the club would receive a not insignificant €24M. Given the current financial situation of Barcelona, this amount would be very welcome in the club's economic coffers, especially for a player who, although promised to succeed with the Blaugrana jersey, unfortunately did not achieve it, perhaps due to lack of opportunities.
