FC Barcelona is considering several alternatives to register Dani Olmo. After the judicial setback, the club has a 'lever' to activate next week that would resolve a 'soap opera' that also includes Pau Víctor
The ruling against the precautionary measure presented by FC Barcelona before the Commercial Court number 10 of the City of Barcelona puts the blue and claret team in serious trouble to register Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor for the second half of the 2024/25 season. The club still has another pending lawsuit awaiting a ruling, before the First Instance Court, whose resolution will be known this Monday.
In case of receiving another judicial setback, Barça is considering several alternatives that must be activated in record time. The reason is simple: the deadline to resolve the pending registrations ends on Tuesday, December 31, as the league must close its census before the opening of the winter market, which begins on Wednesday, January 1, 2025. If he is left out of the culé squad, the player from Terrassa will be free to sign with any other club.
The negotiation for Barça Vision, a more complicated route
Initially, as we had already mentioned in FCBN, Barça's 'plan B' aims to use the income derived from the sale of VIP seats at Spotify Camp Nou, a 'lever' that will leave around 120 million euros in the culé coffers. LaLiga rejects the remaining margin of salary freed by Ter Stegen's injury, but it cannot object to the income derived from an operation that the club has been working on for several weeks.
More complicated, but equally useful to raise the approximately 40 'kilos' that Barça needs to register Olmo, is the issue of the resale of Barça Vision. The club has only received 65M€ of the 200M€ that the sale of this asset was supposed to generate, due to defaults, first from Socios.com and Orpheus Media (they only paid 10M€ each, out of the 200M€ promised), and then from Libero Football (which only paid 20 of the 60M€ it was supposed to pay).
Finding a new partner in such a short time seems almost impossible, but a new partner who assumes the accumulated debt would allow Barça to find the balance that prevents it from finally returning to the 1/1 rule. In addition to the pending registrations, the board also plans to resolve the renewals of Pedri and Gavi with the income derived from one of these 'levers'.
Personal guarantees, an emergency alternative
If none of these strategies materializes in time, on December 31, Barça will resort to personal guarantees to be able to register Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor. To do this, one of the executives must put their assets at the disposal of LaLiga, something that Joan Laporta and other collaborators have already done in other instances. However, this route will only be used as a last resort.
The Premier League, lurking for Dani Olmo
In the worst-case scenario, if the player from Terrassa becomes free in January, Manchester City and Arsenal will go after the midfielder. According to information leaked by 'Relevo', the 'sky blue' team is considering at least five reinforcements in winter to get out of the crisis, while the 'gunners' are also looking to strengthen their attack after a first half of the season below their expectations. Beyond the rumors, Olmo only thinks about succeeding in Barcelona and hopes to be able to play from January 4, when the culés return to action in the Copa del Rey against Barbastro.
