Pep renews until 2026 without release clause, demonstrating his loyalty even if Manchester City faces administrative relegation

Calendar of FC Barcelona

Manchester City and Pep Guardiola have reached an agreement to renew the Catalan coach's contract until June 2026, with a possible extension until 2027 if certain objectives are met. Although the official announcement has not yet been made, various sources such as The

Athletic assure that the signing is imminent. This new contract reinforces Guardiola's commitment to the club, even in the midst of the accusations that weigh on the 'sky blues'

An unwavering commitment

The great novelty of the contract is that it does not include a release clause in the event of an eventual administrative relegation, a possibility that has arisen due to the 115 alleged irregularities with financial fair play that the club faces. Guardiola, who joined City in 2016, has made it clear that he will not abandon ship, regardless of the category in which the team finds itself.

"I will not consider my future depending on whether we are in the Premier League or League One," said the coach in previous statements. "In fact, there is a better chance of me staying if we are in League One than in the Champions League," he added, demonstrating a loyalty rarely seen in modern football.

Heading towards a decade at City

With this renewal, Guardiola could complete a decade at the helm of Manchester City, consolidating himself as one of the longest-serving coaches in the recent history of English football. During his tenure, he has won multiple titles, including four consecutive Premier League titles, and continues to chase his fifth despite City currently being five points behind leaders Liverpool.

City under the shadow of accusations

The club, which remains firm in its defense, faces the possibility of sanctions that could include a relegation to League One. However, Guardiola's decision to remain with the team reinforces its commitment not only to the sporting project, but also with the institution at a critical moment.

In a context where contracts usually include clauses that facilitate the departure of coaches in adverse situations, the Spanish coach is committed to stability and mutual trust with the board and fans of Manchester City.

If the terms of his renewal are officially confirmed, the Catalan coach will reaffirm his position as a fundamental figure in the club's history, willing to lead City in any scenario, whether in the Premier League or the English third division.
