Marc Guiu received another 'blow' with Chelsea this week. The forward was gaining minutes in the Premier League, but suffered a serious injury to his right adductor.

Marc Guiu's first season in England with Chelsea is proving to be really difficult for the former FC Barcelona youth player. This Friday, the coach of the 'blues', Enzo Maresca, confirmed the absence of the 19-year-old player due to a right adductor injury that initially seemed like a simple overload, but the latest tests revealed a much more serious problem.

"Unfortunately, Marc's injury is serious. He will probably be out for several weeks or even months," said the coach at the press conference before the visit to Brighton. The Spanish attacker left the last Chelsea home match with discomfort, but had assured he felt fine. However, he could be out for a long time after accumulating just 578 minutes in 18 matches (6 goals) in the first five months of the season. The Conference League had been his lifeline until now, scoring 5 goals in the last two matchdays of the league phase (2 against Astana and 3 against Shamrock Rovers).

Marc Guiu's injury couldn't have come at a worse time

In this sense, the injury comes at the worst moment for the former Barça forward. The Granollers native had just returned to play in the Premier League last Monday against West Ham, which was barely his third match in the tournament. That day he played 38 minutes, coming on in the 52' for Nicolas Jackson (also injured) in the first substitution made by the Italian coach. Marc left a good impression and was hoping to continue gaining playing time this Saturday in the FA Cup against Brighton, a tournament where he had played the full 90 minutes in his debut against Morecambe (5-0).

However, Guiu is set to be out for several weeks again and could even say goodbye to the season if his recovery becomes complicated. Barcelona received 6 million euros net for his transfer last summer, after the 'blues' decided to pay the value of his release clause. With the first team, he played 7 matches in the 23-24 season (182 minutes), scoring a couple of goals. With the reserve team, he also scored 6 goals and provided 4 assists in 17 appearances before signing with the London club for five seasons, until June 2029.
