The poor performances in the last Champions Leagues caused FC Barcelona to miss a unique opportunity with the new FIFA Club World Cup
The Club World Cup that will take place from June 14 to July 13, 2025 will distribute an exorbitant amount of money among its 32 participants, but this is a real headache for FC Barcelona, who did not qualify for the competition and needs to continue generating income to maintain Financial Fair Play.
Among the various announcements made by FIFA, the one regarding this competition stands out, which will have 1 billion dollars (929 million euros) in prizes for the qualified teams. The mere participation of Real Madrid in the World Cup guarantees them €35M fixed, while Atlético will receive €20M; just from that, we would be talking about an amount that Barcelona could have easily earned.
Why will Barcelona not participate in the 2025 Club World Cup?
The poor performances in the last four Champions Leagues left Barcelona out. It is worth noting that performance during these periods was crucial for entering the competition. In the 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 seasons, the Blaugrana team was eliminated from the Champions League in the group stage, so these results were key when the UEFA ranking was made.
Although in the last edition the Catalan team managed to reach the quarter-finals, it was not enough to qualify for the FIFA Club World Cup 2025.
How much would Barça have earned if they participated and became champions?
After the group stage, teams will have to compete in the round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals, and final. A format similar to that of the Champions League in this part, but here comes the good part; for advancing to each stage, participants will receive very juicy amounts of money.
Earnings by stages:
- Round of 16: €7M
- Quarter-finals: €12M
- Semi-finals: €20M
- Final: €28M
- Champion: €37M
- Total: €104M
