Konrad de la Fuente will miss the rest of the season

After his departure from the ranks of FC Barcelona last summer, fortune has not accompanied Konrad de la Fuente. Currently in the Olympique de Marseille squad, the American has gone through a real 'ordeal', which has prevented him from seeing minutes of play, a situation that is now worsening with the new surgical intervention to which he has undergone.

De la Fuente had a good start and used to be a regular in Jorge Sampaoli's lineups, but since January bad luck would knock on his door when he ended up testing positive for coronavirus; with it, he moved away from the field momentarily. The collateral effects of the condition ended up causing a muscle tear that prolonged his absence.

After being able to resume activity again, an injury to his knee would hamper his evolution once again. It was this ailment that took him to the operating room on April 6, which will entail an extensive recovery period that will extend beyond the 2021-22 academic year, thus culminating his first season with Marseille.

Meanwhile, the French team has had a good year and is currently second in Ligue 1 with 59 points, far behind the leaders Paris Saint-Germain, who have 71 points and could secure the title in the coming weeks. Even so, Sampaoli's team wants to stay in this position to ensure their place in the next edition of the Champions League.

Playing in the elite European tournament is the great objective defined by the owner of the club, who has thus transmitted it to the president, Pablo Longoria, and to the coach. Marseille still has a mathematical chance of fighting for the French championship, but losing so many points at home has taken them away from this possibility, while PSG, despite their setbacks, looks solid in the local tournament.
