OFFICIAL! Real Madrid will be in the renewed FIFA Club World Cup

The FIFA has communicated this Tuesday the formats of several tournaments, between them the Glass of the World, as well as of the World-wide of Clubs. The tournament, in which the champions of each confederation confront to final of the year calendar, will contest now each four years with 32 teams, with the first edition in June of 2025, as it approved unanimously the Council of the FIFA, gathered this Tuesday in Kigali (Rwanda).

The Real Madrid, valid winner of the tournament after his triumph in Morocco the past month of February, will contest the first edition, as current champion of the Champions League. The white team will go in in the new format to be the winner of the second of the four previous years to his dispute, as well as Chelsea, that won it in 2021, and the teams that win the two next editions of the European tournament.

The FIFA has defined that the key principles of access to the same are the following:

1. For confederations with more than four squares: access for the champions of the four previous editions of the competition of clubs more important of the confederation, and additional teams that will determine by means of a classification of clubs based in the same period of four years.
2. For confederations with four squares: access for the champions of the four previous editions of the maximum competition of clubs of the confederation.
3. For confederations with a contingent: access for the better club classified between the champions of the maximum competition of clubs of the confederation in the period of four years;
4. For the host country: the access of the club that occupy this square will determine later.

Besides, if a club wins two or more editions of the maximum competition of clubs of the confederation during the period 2021-2024, will use a classification of clubs calculated in function of sportive criteria to concede the access. The information details that also it will apply a limit of two clubs by country to the list of access, with an exception in case that more than two teams of the same country win the maximum competition of clubs of the confederation during the period of four years.

Nevertheless, FIFA precise that will make new queries with the confederations to define the mechanisms of calculation of the classification of clubs, that will base in sportive criteria. To the margin of this tournament, "given the need expressed by the confederations that the champions of his main competitions of clubs confront annually to stimulate the competitiveness, the Council of the FIFA approved unanimously the strategic concept of an annual competition of clubs of the FIFA from 2024", signalled the communiqué.

Changes also for 2026

During the meeting the Council also defined the increase of countries that will compete in the final stages of the next Glass of the World, happening of the 32 that came from France 1998, to the 48 that will be from the next appointment (in United States, Mexico and Canada), something that forces to a distribution in which they will surpass the phase of groups the two first of each one of the 12 groups as well as the eight better third.
