The referee chosen to officiate the Mallorca-Barcelona match (today at 7pm) is, coincidentally, the one with whom the Blaugrana team has won the fewest games in La Liga
Jesús Gil Manzano is by far the best referee in La Liga if you need to hurt Barça. His statistics have broken all records and his decisions, always controversial and against the culé team, have starred in some of the most scandalous and regrettable moments in Spanish football.
In Mallorca he will officiate his 32nd match against Barça in the league championship, being the referee with whom he has obtained the worst results. With Gil Manzano he has won only 19 matches, drawn 6 and lost 7. In total, in almost 40% of the matches (13 of the 32) the Barcelona team did not get the victory. A clearly disproportionate percentage for a team like Barcelona. In addition, he showed 80 yellow cards, 6 red cards and signaled 4 penalties against.
But if we focus on the data with Barcelona away, the concern increases exponentially. Of the 32 games managed by Gil Manzano, 15 were away games and... in 70% of them he failed to win! 5 wins, 4 draws and 6 losses.
The most lamentable record in Spanish football
The referee from Extremadura has the dubious honour of having sent off Lewandowski and Messi, Suárez and Neymar, the historic MSN of FC Barcelona in its entirety. The Polish striker suffered in Pamplona the only expulsion in his entire career at Barça. In addition, he was suspended for 3 games in one of the most controversial and embarrassing plays that have been seen due to the famous gesture of the player bringing his finger to his nose.
And Messi's expulsion? Leo saw the only red card of his career with Gil Manzano in a Barça-Athletic corresponding to the Super Cup. And to top off the absurdity, Neymar and Suárez were also controversially sent off by the referee from Extremadura.
The culés will also remember him for being the referee who sent off Gerard Piqué in his last match as a professional, in which the Barça player described him as "the referee who has screwed us the most" and said "it's a f...king disgrace, I curse your f...king mother!".
Now, FC Barcelona will once again meet this 'referee' in a match where it is mandatory to get the three points to stay at the top of the table and put an end to the bad run of results.
