FC Barcelona drew against Betis (1-1), ending a streak of nine consecutive victories in La Liga
The draw for FC Barcelona against Real Betis (1-1) was the first setback for the team managed by Hansi Flick since matchday 20 of La Liga. The team led by Hansi Flick arrived on Saturday with 27 points in a row, but faced a 'verdiblanco' team that had also achieved six consecutive victories. In the end, the Andalusian defense was able to withstand the Blaugrana siege, obtaining a result that Barça had not achieved since January 18, against Getafe.
Since then, the Catalans have left behind Valencia (7-1), Alavés (1-0), Sevilla (1-4), Rayo (1-0), Las Palmas (0-2), Real Sociedad (4-0), Atlético (2-4), Osasuna (3-0), and Girona (4-1), with a balance of 30 goals for and only 5 against. However, the team remains unbeaten in 10 matches (8 wins and 2 draws), having scored at least one goal in their last 11 appearances in the tournament. The defeat against Leganés (0-1 on matchday 17) was the last time Flick's team failed to score.
Barça falters but increases its lead in La Liga
Barça added nine consecutive victories to regain the lead, leaving Real Madrid and Atlético 3 and 9 points behind, respectively. On Saturday, the opportunity to seal the championship seemed unbeatable after the 'merengue' defeat at the Santiago Bernabéu, but the draw only increased the lead to 4 over Carlo Ancelotti's team, while Atlético could close the gap to 7 points if they defeat Sevilla.
Still, the Catalans still have everything in their hands to claim the title, with 8 matchdays left. The draw against Betis did not represent a significant drop in the Blaugrana's collective performance, far from it. Adrián was the standout figure for the Andalusians, with 4 saves, and Barça finished the match with 13 shots (5 on target). There was a lack of efficiency, yes, but there was also a defensive failure, as the initial lead lasted only 10 minutes. Now it's time to turn the page, focus on the Champions League, and next Saturday, go for a win in Butarque.
