Diego Simeone spoke about the controversial refereeing in the Madrid-Celta (5-2) match in the Copa del Rey. For the Argentine coach, there is no reason to be surprised by the robberies committed by the 'White House'

Calendar of FC Barcelona

Real Madrid committed one of the most blatant robberies remembered in the Copa del Rey against Celta de Vigo (5-2) on Thursday. The Galician team was denied two clear penalties, both overlooked by VAR along with a red card forgiven to Endrick in extra time. Regarding this, Diego Simeone did not hesitate to deliver a brutal 'blow' to the 'White House' for something that, at this point, is normal in Spanish football. The refereeing robberies favorable to Madrid.

"I didn't watch yesterday's match, honestly. I was told about episodes that occurred during the match, but as they have been for a hundred years, so I don't know what surprises them", explained 'Cholo' in the press conference prior to the match against Leganés. In that sense, when asked whether it is possible to compete against Madrid given everything that happens with Spanish refereeing, the Argentine was blunt. "Yes, because everyone has competed for a hundred years and they continue to compete, of course it is possible".

Total silence from the RFEF after the Madrid-Celta scandal

Despite the multiple errors by Munuera Montero (main referee) and Hernández Hernández (in charge of VAR), the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) maintained absolute silence regarding the controversies of the match, omitting the publication of the VAR audios (in the case of the penalty by Lunin on Swedberg) and the semi-automatic VAR captures of the offside prior to a clear hand penalty by Rüdiger in the first half of extra time.

Why are the audios and images not published? The answer is clear. In the case of the penalty by Lunin, there was simply no VAR review, as it would have meant overturning the goal scored by Kylian Mbappé in the subsequent play. And, regarding the offside prior to Rüdiger's hand penalty, the same goes. The television footage showed that all Celta players involved in the action were perfectly onside.

VAR also refused to review a stamp by Endrick and a punch by Fede Valverde, both deserving of expulsion during the first half of extra time, when the score was still tied (2-2). Later, the Brazilian (double) and the Uruguayan would score the winning goals for Madrid, which also previously escaped another hand penalty from Jude Bellingham. As Simeone said, the one against Celta was the last of the countless robberies perpetrated for a century by the 'merengues'. In the end, nothing surprises anymore, but it is the duty of those involved, at the very least, to raise their voices against the scandal.
