FC Barcelona lost its second game of the season in LaLiga against Real Sociedad (1-0). Once again, the culés fell in a duel called by Guillermo Cuadra Fernández
FC Barcelona ended its streak of seven consecutive victories (four in LaLiga, three in the Champions League) with an unexpected loss in San Sebastián against Real Sociedad (1-0). As in the only previous defeat in the League (against Osasuna), the culés dealt with the errors of the referees led by Guillermo Cuadra Fernández.
Together with Carlos del Cerro Grande, also from Madrid, in charge of the VAR at Anoeta, the 40-year-old referee decided to annul a legal goal by Robert Lewandowski due to a non-existent offside by the Pole. In principle, the goal was validated by the linesman, but the semi-automatic VAR considered that the '9' culé had the tip of his right boot forward.

However, the 3D images confirmed what, at first glance, was evident. Lewandowski was enabled and the foot that the VAR took to justify the offside was from the Moroccan central defender Nayef Aguerd. Furthermore, the errors of the electronic recreation were evident in the limbs of both footballers.

Then, a goal from Sheraldo Becker in the 33rd minute was enough to leave Barça without points in a day where Hansi Flick's team showed their worst image of the season, without ideas or depth to hurt an orderly San Sebastian defense. In the rest of the match, there were no more key errors by the referees. However, the culés had already suffered the Madrid judge in the Osasuna-Barça (4-2).
Cuadra Fernández and the VAR once again harmed Barça
That September 28, Valentín Pizarro Gómez was in charge of the VAR and Barça was harmed in two clear plays. In the first half, Osasuna's second goal, the work of Bryan Zaragoza, came preceded by a clear stomp by Lucas Torró on Pau Víctor.

Neither Cuadra Fernández nor the VAR noticed an infraction identical to the one sanctioned against Jules Koundé against Rayo, in a play that also led to a culé goal, in that case annulled by the referees.
At the end of the duel in Pamplona, the referees also overlooked a clear penalty on Lamine Yamal. Abel Bretones pushed the Barça '19' inside the area, but both the principal and the VAR considered that the contact was not punishable. Barça ended up losing 4-2, in a day marked by Hansi Flick's failed rotations, but also by refereeing decisions.
