Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea will be the main judge of the FC Barcelona-Sevilla to be played this Sunday, October 20 in Montjuïc (9:00 p.m. CEST). The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) confirmed this Thursday the referees of the ten matches corresponding to the tenth day of LaLiga EA Sports and, in the case of the duel between culés and Seville, the Basque will be in charge of dispensing justice.

Along with the 38-year-old referee will be Carlos del Cerro Grande, in charge of the VAR. Barça will lead the clash against the Andalusians with 24 points, waiting for what Real Madrid does on Saturday against Celta in Balaídos. The only way in which the culés would temporarily give up the lead before the match in Montjuïc would be in the case of a 'merengue' victory by 7 or more goals on Galician soil.

Barça's first match with De Burgos Bengoetxea this season

For De Burgos Bengoetxea, this will be his first game of the season leading Barça. The Basque referee whistled for the last time against the Barça team was on April 29, also in Montjuïc, but against Valencia (culé victory 4-2). It was on matchday 33 of LaLiga 2023/24, this being the only precedent for Bilbao in Barça matches last season.

Previously, the referee was the main referee for Espanyol-Barça (1-4) played on May 14, 2023, a win that allowed the culés to celebrate the 2022/23 season four days before the end of the season. Since his official appointment in 2018, the Basque has directed 28 Barça games with a very positive balance for the culés (23 wins, 1 draw and 4 losses). For its part, Sevilla has seen De Burgos Bengoetxea on 22 occasions, adding 10 wins, 5 draws and 7 losses.
