Barça enjoyed a good game in Girona to cling to the top of the championship. In another display, Hansi Flick's men 'crushed' Míchel's men thanks to a monumental Lamine Yamal, who scored his first double of the season

FC Barcelona returned to action in LaLiga EA Sports 2024/25 on the right foot. The Blaugrana squad maintains its perfect run in the league championship, this time with a victory in 'hostile' territory. The Catalans 'took revenge' on Girona at Montilivi, with a new 1-4 win that puts them four points behind Real Madrid and Villarreal, tied at 11 in second place, and 7 behind Atlético de Madrid, who will play their match tonight against Valencia. A resounding victory for Flick's team, who already have 17 goals for and 3 against in this league start.

Lamine Yamal was the great protagonist of the match. The Blaugrana star had the 'key' to the goal of the match, as, when both teams were unable to 'severely' hurt each other in the first half hour of the match, the Spanish-Moroccan took advantage of a bad exit from David López to snatch the ball from him and be one-on-one with Gazzaniga, opening the scoring with a great finish. Less than 10 minutes later, the winger caught a rebound on the edge of the area after a bad clearance from Girona and, unmarked, sent a magnificent shot close to the left post, extending Barça's lead and scoring his first double of the season, accumulating 3 goals in the local competition.

The Catalan victory, moreover, had a special 'flavour' for Robert Lewandowski. The Pole, who did not manage to 'score' in the Girona fiefdom despite having a clear chance to score which he incomprehensibly missed, celebrated his hundredth match wearing the Barça shirt with a victory. The striker managed to join a select list of club legends, scoring 63 goals in his first 100 games as a Barça player, although this Sunday he gave way to Lamine, who is beginning to follow in his footsteps in front of the opposing goal.

However, the first half was not free of controversy for the Catalans. When the two teams were preparing to go to the locker room, Muñiz Ruiz awarded a penalty in favour of Girona for a non-existent handball by Iñigo Martínez. The centre-back, in a natural falling movement, cut off with his arm a ball cleared by Alejandro Balde, a non-punishable offence as he did not remove his arm from his body with malice aforethought. For this reason, the VAR was forced to intervene and, finally, the referee corrected his initial decision, annulling the 'punishment' for the Catalans.

The 'magicians' sealed the second half

The tone of the first 45 minutes continued after the break. Barça continued their particular 'display', and Dani Olmo quickly sealed the match. The player from Egar, who was the team's conductor for the 61 minutes he was on the pitch before being substituted for Monaco, received a great assist from Jules Koundé in the area and hit a spectacular volley to make it 0-3 on the scoreboard. His third goal in his third match as a Barça player, a run that confirms him as the star signing of the campaign

In addition to the thrashing received, Montilivi also witnessed the return of two who were 'his'. Eric García and Pau Víctor came onto the pitch to refresh their legs for the Catalan team, being well received by a fan base that has fond memories of both, although more so of the defender, who was one of the stars of the team that qualified for the Champions League last season.

Pedri also joined the party. The Canary Islander scored his second goal of the season with a great finish from a true '9' after controlling a great pass from Raphinha, who has already accumulated two assists in the League. Stuani 'made up' for the humiliation of the Blaugrana with the 'honor' goal in the last minutes of the match and Ferran Torres was the 'stain' of the match when he was sent off for a hard, unintentional stomp on Asprilla, but the blow on the table from Flick's men was forceful and made it clear that there are no 'galacticos' who can bring down this magnificent Barça.
