Will Hansi Flick Revolutionize the Starting Eleven? Possible Surprise Lineup for Barça against Mallorca

Calendar of FC Barcelona

FC Barcelona and Mallorca face each other this Tuesday, April 22, 2025 in matchday 33 of LaLiga EA Sports 2024-2025. The Azulgrana team arrives with renewed spirits after the incredible comeback against Celta de Vigo (4-3) last Saturday.

With six matchdays remaining in LaLiga, Barça maintains a four and ten-point advantage over Real Madrid and Atlético, respectively, which means they can take another firm step towards the title by adding three more points at home.

Below, we review the possible starting lineup, the substitutes bench, and the injured and suspended players of Hansi Flick's Barcelona.

Hansi Flick's Possible Lineup for Barcelona vs Mallorca

  • Starting XI: (#25, GK) Szczesny; (#23) Koundé, (#4) Ronald Araujo, (#2) Pau Cubarsí, (#35) Gerard Martín; (#6) Gavi, (#8) Pedri, (#20) Dani Olmo; (#19) Lamine Yamal, (#11) Raphinha, and (#7) Ferran Torres.
  • Bench: (#13, GK) Iñaki Peña; (#5) Iñigo Martínez; (#10) Ansu Fati; (#14) Pablo Torre; (#15) Andreas Christensen; (#16) Fermín López; (#18) Pau Víctor; (#21) Frenkie de Jong; (#24) Eric García;  (#31, GK) Kochen; (#32) Héctor Fort.
  • Injured: (#1) Ter Stegen; (#3) Alejandro Balde; (#9) Robert Lewandowski; (#28) Marc Bernal; (#17) Marc Casadó.
  • Suspended: None.

In principle, Hansi Flick plans to make some adjustments to his lineup compared to the match against Celta. Szczesny will be in goal, while Koundé and Gerard Martín will once again be the full-backs. In the center of defense, Ronald Araujo could replace Iñigo Martínez, partnering with Pau Cubarsí.

Another player who should rest on Tuesday is Frenkie de Jong, who had a poor performance against the Galician team. Gavi could accompany Pedri in midfield, while Dani Olmo, a key figure in the comeback against Celta, is expected to return to the XI in place of Fermín López.

In attack, Raphinha and Ferran Torres will once again start alongside Lamine Yamal. The 'Shark' will be the team's '9' in the absence of Robert Lewandowski, who was injured against Celta.

Barça will once again have the injuries of Marc-André ter Stegen, Alejandro Balde, Marc Casadó, and Marc Bernal, in addition to Lewandowski. The Polish player will undoubtedly be the team's most significant absence, after scoring 25 goals in the 31 matchdays played so far.

Although the '9' failed to find the net against Betis (1-1), Leganés (0-1), and Celta (4-3), his presence in the area is key to freeing up spaces for Lamine and Raphinha, who also lose their main reference point when it comes to delivering passes into the heart of the area.

In principle, 'Lewy' will be out for around two or three weeks, which means he would miss the Copa final against Real Madrid and the first leg of the Champions League 'semis' against Inter Milan.

In defense, Alejandro Balde will once again be absent, whose presence adds much more depth to the Azulgrana attack. In addition, his speed allows him to cover much more ground than Gerard Martín.

No less important is the absence of Marc Casadó. Frenkie de Jong has been playing very well alongside Pedri in midfield, but against Celta, he showed some signs of fatigue. Ter Stegen, meanwhile, is already in the final phase of his recovery and could be ready for the last month of the season.

Possible Mallorca lineup against FC Barcelona

  • Starter XI: Greif; Morey, Valjent, Raíllo, Copete, Mojica; Costa, Antonio Sánchez, Darder; Abdón Prats y Cyle Larin.
  • Bench: (soon)
  • Injury players: Vedat Muriqi, Robert Navarro, Takuma Asano y Manu Morlanes.
  • Sanctioned: Pablo Maffeo y Dani Rodríguez.

Mallorca are not going through their best LaLiga campaign. Jagoba Arrasate's team has only won two of their last eight matches and is coming off a 0-0 draw at home to Leganés. Furthermore, they will be without Vedat Muriqi, Robert Navarro, Takuma Asano, and Manu Morlanes, four regular starters for the Balearic coach, due to injury.

Pablo Maffeo and Dani Rodríguez will also be out due to suspension. Both received five yellow cards in the match against Leganés. Mallorca currently sits in seventh place in the table with 44 points, one more than Celta Vigo (8th) and two ahead of Real Sociedad (9th).
